That's right, folks. I have to get something to drive that's worth a damn. And so far, I'm undecided.

Under $10k.
Must not look or smell like shit.
Must be maybe a bit sporty.
Must seat four persons. I already have one hunk of shit that only seats two (three if ya wanna ride bitch).
Must get some good gas mileage.

Choices on my list:

Another Integra (MUCH newer)
Camry
Accord
I actually thought about buying a mid-'90s BMW 525i wagon...but decided that might not be such a hot idea.
Older BMW 3-series.

Those of you who know me, let a brotha know what you think. Those of you who don't, feel free to be creative.

That's high on the list, actually.

Another: mid- to late-'90s Maxima. 5 speed of course. But with a passenger seat and no turbos.

yes but more hammer droppage will occur with this amount of power, will it not? and hammer droppage on a maxima will be more gas than hammer droppage in a 'teg.

But then again, torque can be a beautiful thing...

you can get a pretty nice E36 for well under 10k (323/325/328...not much difference in power between them, although you can save some money with the smaller ones)

hell, if you get a 318i sedan (not that stupid hatch thing), you could go way under 10k. they aren't all ate up with power, but they're good driving cars, and the horsepressure is adequate.

you also could get a WRX sedan or wagon for under 10k.

I'd say A4, Maxima, BMW 323 or 325 (I drove an E46 323 and was underwhelmed, 318 seems like it'd be gutless and 328/330 would get crappy mileage)...V6 Accord could be good...don't suppose you can get a Lexus IS for under 10k, can you?

maxima all the way. no timing belt bullshit. comfortable, easy on maintenance, good power, decent gas mileage, inexpensive...

i had an '02 SE model and that damn thing ran like a champ. VQ35 is a great engine. HIDs were a nice touch.

id look for an '02 with high miles....you may find few right around $10k.

if you opt for 6-speed, some of them had the option of HLSD...nissan's helical limited slip.

my bros 960 is pretty quick, good on gas, and comfy as hell. But its a 95, and 95 and newer have major problems with door panels. That is one smooth riding rear wheel drive car though.

you can get solid late '90s 325/328s for under $7-8k np. My friend just got a real clean '96 328 for $6500.

An integra would be nice since youve had one and know you like them. I was after one till i test drove it.. i'm not a big fan of being smooshed into a car and revving to the moon to go. I'd be a really fun motor at the track or really beating on, but not for traffic, etc id think

Yeah, ain't no way I want anything that gets less than 28-30 mpg on a regular (not sticking my foot in it) basis.

The SuperDodge is costing me between 300 and 400 dolla a month in fuel, AND it's beating the hell out of me on long trips. AND stupid shit falls apart at an alarming rate.

I really do have an aversion to buying an American marque as a daily driver, because once most of them get some age on them, they nickel-and-dime you to death. There is a noticeable difference in fit and finish that becomes glaringly apparent as the vehicle ages.

The only reason I own the SuperDodge is because ol' Clessie resides under the hood. The rest of the truck is an incredible hunk of shit.

you ever driven an E36? they aren't God's gift to the automotive world, but they're pretty much God's gift to that set of constraints at that price point.

(I think the WRX would be fun, too, but I've never driven one besides an STi...I don't know if it would get 28 mpg, though)

Actually the last Bimmers I drove were two E46s (an automatic 330i and a stick 330ci) and X5.

I was reasonably impressed.

Get a 98 Lexus GS300 or a 95 or so LS.

Or it might be slow but I'd get a 96+ diesel E class.

actually a 95 deisel E class is best. it has the better engine from the 96 and up years and the old square body that they had worked all the bugs out of... but youll still end up working on it.

ES300 FTW

^^^^GS would be mediocre on gas mileage and LS would be worse. I don't think the ES would be that great either, leaving the IS as the only Lexus choice and possibly too pricey.

I like the diesel Benz idea...though it's not particularly sporty...

a GS300 would prob be a nice ride, and it would be close enough (in MY book) on gas mileage. it's prob not what I'd buy over an E36 or WRX, but it would be on the short list of options.

LS400s are great interstate cruisers, but they are devoid of any sense of feel for the driver and any other manifestation of automotive soul to a greater degree than anything else I've ever driven. They feel like driving an arcade game.

and I already looked at IS300s for myself (a little while back, when I bought my E46) and for Dan...I don't think he'll ever find one in his price range unless it's fucked up or has a zillion miles.

maaaaybe.

i paid a 16k for mine, but it was a coupe, 330, 5 spd, sport package, pretty much every option except for heated seats...and i think it only had maybe 55k miles.

so yeah, maybe for a stripped 325 sedan with a bunch of miles.

i'd personally rather have a clean, low mileage E36.

i mean i just got done looking, there were lots of e46's just over $10k and some high mileage ones just under $10k

the e36 i found has a few more miles than i wanted (125k) but its a 9.5/10. but i had to look at a dozen or so other e36's to find this one so if you want an e36 you are gonna have to look through some junkers to find one thats clean.

and 5 speeds are gonna cost you a lot more than auto's
