i'm running uTorrent on my mac via darwine/X11
the torrents queue up properly, i can get incoming connections, and i can get peers over DHT on public torrents
i have NEVER been able to connect to ANY tracker, though. not demonoid, TPB, anything.
it says "offline (timed out)" next to tracker status.
i find it hard to believe the demonoid tracker has been offline for days.
i'm on TWC roadrunner.
any ideas? my router isn't blocking the traffic, i can watch it go through on the QoS logs. 6/19/2007 10:27:25 AM |

i'm not familiar with uTorrent, but FWIW, i've been downloading via demonoid all morning with Azureus. 6/19/2007 10:57:09 AM |

try turning on the option that masks packets and see if that works. TWC could be filtering packets now, I remember hearing they were planning on doing that. 6/19/2007 11:08:05 AM |

are you running a firewall? 6/19/2007 11:38:32 AM |

no
(i would think that if i'm smart enough to get utorrent to run over darwine and x11, i'd think i could turn off a firewall) 6/19/2007 11:39:54 AM |

Try putting your computer in the router's DMZ to see if that helps.
It could also be a problem (an odd one...) with Darwine.
Also, why not use Azureus? If you have a dual core computer, and at least 1GB of RAM, then you''ll be okay, even if it's a resource hog. 6/19/2007 1:27:04 PM |

If none of that works, it might be a DNS issue ... try putting different DNS servers in your network config such as OpenDNS (http://www.opendns.com), NCSU's or anything other than your ISP. While it would be wrong for them to do this, it's possible your ISP is blocking specific names.

i had already tried putting it in the DMZ, that didn't help i also had my dns servers set to opendns, i thought that might have been the problem so i switched back to TWC's dns, no change
(sorry, i meant to say this in my first post)
like i said before, i can see the traffic in my QoS logs on the router, so i know it's getting to the internet
(oh, and also, i'd use azuerus, but last time i checked, it wouldn't run on the new core 2 duo macbooks... guess something's changed.)] 6/19/2007 3:25:23 PM |

Clarify then, do you get an offline tracker for ALL trackers, or just the normally private ones? For example, what do you get when you use the public tracker for Ubuntu distros? http://releases.ubuntu.com/6.06/ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386.iso.torrent 6/19/2007 3:32:19 PM |

you never said if you were masking the packets or not? your isp might be fucking with your packets if it thinks you're running bittorrent. 6/19/2007 3:38:57 PM |

i tried encryption, nothing helped.
i've never heard of anyone complaining that TWC was blocking bittorrent, so idk...
lemme try the ubuntu tracker real quick. 6/19/2007 3:45:32 PM |

k, ubuntu works.
why the fuck is this just an issue with demonoid and TPB? 6/19/2007 3:47:31 PM |

also, TWC is just implementing packet shaping, that wouldn't completely block the connection, just limit it 6/19/2007 3:48:30 PM |

Ok good, Ubuntu works so it's not a configuration thing ... have you tried logging into the website for the private trackers (demonoid, tpb, etc)? Allow them to register your IP as a valid account ... otherwise maybe they're blocking you ... Just a guess. 6/19/2007 4:05:19 PM |

yep, done that. i downloaded the torrents while i was logged in. 6/19/2007 4:07:21 PM |

Are you reporting your proper IP to the trackers in the "BitTorrent" page of utorrent's Preferences? 6/19/2007 4:15:04 PM |

You should report it as a bug to the people who maintain your wine versionl. 6/20/2007 1:58:44 AM |
