I need to find a website that I can purchase photos to be used on a clients website and also music that can be used on the site. The client doesn't have any photos to work with but wants to buy them from some where along with the music.
this is just temp. as far as the photos go until they can get their own material put together.

at work we look through a bunch of sites.
http://www.punchstock.com/ http://photostock.com/ http://www.shutterstock.com/ http://www.fotolia.com/
That should be a big enough database worth of pictures for you. If you can't find it, then either you need to change your idea/artwork (work around it, find something else to use) or schedule a photo shoot. Make sure you look at getting royalty free photos. 6/19/2007 6:42:40 PM |

what about some music related sites or how do i go about finding a music database and getting permission to use certain songs?
^those aren't 'free' to use or don't have an option to purchase rights.

If your doing a splash page with an intro, you can legally use 10% of the length of the song up to 2 mins (if I remember correctly). Anything more and then you'd need permissions to use it.
There's also a fine line between using music on sites. As long as you bought the cd/song and streaming the music, you should be fine, but the end listener shouldn't be able to download the actual file. You'd have to read some legal statements first before you trust my judgement. 6/19/2007 9:23:02 PM |

the harry fox agency handles licensing for like pretty much all commercial music out there.
if you don't want commercial music: http://www.freeplaymusic.com/ 6/20/2007 7:44:27 AM |

http://www.sxc.hu is THE best free stock image site in the history of al gore's internet
just create an account and you'll see.
most photos are free for any use and some you just have to ask for permission from the owner...it's really sweet though.

Search flickr for photos that have creative commons license of "attribution" only. You can use it for commercial purposes for free as long as you attribute the photographer. 6/20/2007 3:12:15 PM |

^yeah their search isn't the greatest thing in the world, but if you spend 15 minutes on there you can have a pretty solid stock image folder for future use (which is what i do every now and then) 6/20/2007 5:20:25 PM |

Yup, that's what we did. Before we subscribed we went through and picked out the pictures we definitely wanted and downloaded the max per day. Btw, most of those are high res 6000x5000+ pictures 6/20/2007 8:40:20 PM |

yeah i told her to just add all the pics she liked to the lightbox then i'll log in and download all the high res so we don't waste time with her downloading them and trying to email them to me. 6/20/2007 8:53:54 PM |
