I'm looking to spend ~3K on a nice table, but don't know of any good stores aside from Atlantic Spas and billiards. I would need a place near Durham that can deliver and install it. I don't know much about tables, but I was thinking of getting an 8 foot 3 piece slate table. 6/20/2007 12:16:32 PM |

I would be interested in that. Where can I get one? I know Atlantic will move/level/refelt it for me. 6/20/2007 12:18:58 PM |

Check Craigslist or the newspaper.. Not sure, but you should be able to get a nice used one for a fraction of 3K. Moving, refelting, etc. is KEY too. 6/20/2007 12:42:35 PM |

Not telling you that you should buy it or anything...but I figured it would fit here the best...
My dad has an 8...or is it 9?? foot slate pool table with new rails and felt. It's in Lexington (Southmont) NC about 2 hours away. He's selling it for $300. There's a little damage to the wood on one side but it is in perfect working order. Not the PRETTIEST. I have pics if anyone is interested. You'd have to get it moved yourself but pm if anyone is interested. 6/20/2007 9:10:33 PM |

Guess I'll just keep checking craigslist every week. Is there any kind of damange I should look for on used pool tables that could affect play? 6/21/2007 9:31:58 AM |

I am sure you already know this, but if you buy a used table, have it professionally assembled/leveled and recover the felt. I think that is like $500.
My dad has had his table for 5 years and its in great condition with no damage. I think you could expect to find a good used table. 6/21/2007 10:43:11 AM |

My father had a phenominal one built from a company near the capitol building downtown.
They brought the slate in through a crane, into the rec room, and assembled on site.
nicest table ive ever seen..

make sure you want it first though, they lose their novelty after a week or so. I mean its just not the same as going out to a bar with some friends and playing 6/21/2007 11:13:55 PM |

nah...a room with a decent wet bar, a table and a big screen is hot for just practicing and you can always invite your friends over and you dont have to drive anywhere6/22/2007 11:16:58 AM |

Also, Atlantic Spas and Billiards is having a sale in September. 6/25/2007 9:17:44 AM |

I finally made the trip to Capital to check out recreational factory warehouse and game world. I went inside rfw and stood in the pool section for 20 minutes. Finally someone was walking by and I asked for help. He said he would send someone over. I proceeded to wait another 15 minutes and still no one came over. I finally went over to the customer service area where 4-5 guys were just chilling and asked for some damn help. I asked the guy to tell me about the pool tables. Previously when I went to Atlantic Spas and Billiards the guy told me about all the tables, types of wood, where they were from, weigh of the cloth, size of the slate, etc etc. Anyway, the guy just looks at me and asks "What do you want to know", thereby making it very obvious he didn't know shit about these tables. He was able to tell me "what I see is what I get", so it looks like nothing was customizable aside from felt color. Also, the tables didn't include delivery/installation or ball/stick/rack sets. All the tables were American Heritage. I brand I'm not too familiar with and were priced higher than a lot of the Brunswicks / Olhausens I have seen.
After that exhausting trip I went to game world. This experience was 100X better. It was much similar to what happened at Atlantic Spas and Billiards. The lady who owned the store, took me around and showed me everything. She told me about the tables, the various options I could customize, the types of wood useds, warranty info, etc. The tables were very well priced for Brunswick and included installation along with a nice cue set to match your table. Basically if you're ever headed out to Capital, check out this place and don't waste your time with rfw. 7/1/2007 10:57:10 PM |

I think I've narrowed it down to an Olhausen or a Brunswick. Any comments on either? 7/3/2007 9:31:41 AM |

i guess, but if you go to a real billiards place it throws your game off, similar to trying to play on a 6ft table.
i guess if you're mostly at work or home thats fine for you. 7/3/2007 5:24:31 PM |
