First of all playstations are cheap systems that tend to break easily. I dont know how many times i have heard of people having disk read errors for their playstation 2s.

Secondly, all the good games that you would want are coming out for xbox 360. PS3 does not solely have Grand Theft Auto 4 or Devil May Cry anymore.

Basically all the games i want: Grand Theft Auto 4
Resident Evil 5
Halo 3
Devil May Cry

.....are all going to be on xbox 360. Not to mention it is a much less expensive system. So long playstation and take all your bullshit with you!

(im also going to mention i used to own ps2 so i am not biased towards xbox but i just dont see how the ps3 can compete with 360)

And now with Blu Ray they can add an extra 60 hours of CGI cutscenes to the games, you hardly have to play them at all now!

at first I was over-joyed to see that people exercised common sense en-mass and didn't drop nearly a grand on an arguably inferior system, now i'm just sick and tired of all the ps3 bashing.
i mean, why not bitch about how you got a high def plasma screen tv because cave-drawings are just totally over-rated

i'm such a hypocrite, i know.

Ok, so I have neither, and have no reason to buy one until NCAA comes out (next month) and I was going to get a PS3... I mean, I know that up until now, the 360 has been the better deal, it got a head start, cheaper, more shit out for it etc, but wont any advantage (except maybe price) only decline from here on out?

2. sony fanboys
3. people who think blu-ray >> hddvd, even though it's far too early to foresee which format will prevail

1 - PS3 gives you true 1080p graphics. The update on xbox 360 only upscales to 1080p.
2 - online is free and always will be free.
3 - Processing power on PS3 far exceeds that of the 360.
4 - Cheapest blu-ray player on the market (its no longer the cheapest, but the ability to watch BD movies is nice)
5 - Games are on Blu-ray discs. I don't see how 360 is going to be able to keep up with all the high res textures, etc on dvds. Multiple discs I guess.
6 - Some people like Sony games better than 360. Incognito and Insomniac always put out incredible games that will never make it to 360.

I'm sure there are just as many reasons to get an xbox 360 over a PS3, just my 2 cents.

that said, I prefer the 360 nowadays but I dont know as much about the PS3 personally

they're both pretty sweet systems if you're upgrading from a PS2 or regular XBOX though

you could have said the same things about the PS2....

just replace the games with older ones....

biggest reason why i won't buy an xbox, i despise microsoft as a company

that and I have no interest in halo, or most of the other exclusives for the xbox... at all

That made me buy into the PS3 hype, but then I realized why you buy a game console, for games. The PS3 has none. None worth dropping that kind of cash anyway.

The PS3s really haven't had many problems as far as breaking or over heating or anything like that. They have been pretty darn solid since the launch.

^ Well I definitely have a lot of fun with the games I have on there, so not sure what you're talking about or if you have ever even played one.

Seriously though, fanboys and platform bashers are so lame. Get a life dude.

I'm not a big gamer these days, but I can't believe that Sony has so little to offer in terms of games. It's been a really long time since its release.

For me, FF13 would have to be released with Blu-Ray leading the market, and the system would have to cost about 300 bucks.

I really don't wanna get caught up into this pissing contest, but honestly, this bullshit about the 360 having such an extensive library of games has got to stop. The system has been out for what, a year and a half now? I can list the number of exclusive titles that I would actually pay money for on that thing on one hand. Actually, 2 fingers. Gear of War and Forza 2. That's it. Everything else worth a shit was already on the PC (Oblivion) or is a multi platform title (CoD 3).

In one year, the 360 has managed to produce two exclusive titles worth spending money on. Sure, the PS3 doesn't have any, but it has a fair number of average to good games, probably as many the 360. By the end of the year, the PS3 will have added Warhawk, Lair, Heavenly Sword, and possible Uncharted which all have the potential to be huge hits. The 360 has what coming, Halo 3? That's it, a sequel to a sequel that was really nothing more than a glorified expansion pack? Let's not forget that the PS3 has the PS2s entire library available to it (which, btw is still producing quality games) and makes them all look better.

In 6 months, the landscape will have completely changed and this illusion that the 360 has such a huge library of quality games as compared to the PS3 will have completely faded away.

^^because developers know that no one owns one.

^no matter how many games the ps3 has, it will still be a failure at it's current price point.

While I agree, it does probably need a price reduction of ~100 bucks, lets not forgot that to get a comparable 360 system which would mean the Elite + HD-DVD drive, you're already paying more than a 60 GB PS3. It's already crushing the 360 in Japan, and it broke PS1/2 sales records in Europe. Sales in the US have remained steady (and low) but it is catching up as 360 sales are dipping. Microsoft isn't dumb, and they didn't become a billion dollar company by resting on their laurels. They know the PS3 is serious competition, hence how they scrambled to get the Elite out the door. Has a new console ever had a new revision released within' a year and a half of the original consoles release? How did that make 360 owners feel, that their bright and shiny console, barely a year out of the box is already obsolete. That right there tells me all I need to know about Microsoft's faith in the 360 to remain competitive in the long term.

^ wrong. the first gen 360s are not obsolete. the primary reason to buy a gaming console is to game. mine plays the same games that the elite does. i don't care about hdmi, or a bigger hd.

Fine, it's not obsolete to you. The fact remains, a company like Microsoft isn't gonna spend a dime on the R&D required to put out a new SKU, especially so soon after the original's release, unless they feel it is absolutely necessary. Someone over there looked in their magic ball, and said "shit, we need to roll this fucker out stat". They looked at how the 360 stacked up to the PS3 two and three years down the road and didn't like what they saw.

kind of interesting that the PS2's hardware wasnt as good as the XBOX's hardware, but it had a lot more games

now the 360's hardware isnt as good as the PS3's hardware, but the 360 has a lot more games

The reason I made the switch to Microsoft was because my 3rd PS2 died and after paying Sony $20 shipping TWICE to fix it, I said fuck them and bought an XBox

course my 360 has had problems too so hardware problems certainly arent exclusive to one particular system

A lot of it is just personal preference as far as if you like the control feel or tend to stick with a certain brand just because you've enjoyed it more in the past

^^^ i am sure ms is not comprised of dummies that saw this at the last minute. i think it was more of a marketing/distribution tactic. i just find it hard to believe that corps would put people like this in exec positions. all of this console shit is a game, and they know pretty much what they are all doing.

See, that's my other problem. I'm not totally convinced Microsoft's Games/Xbox division does know what they are doing. They have yet to earn a coin of profit. They just paid Rockstar 50 million dollars to get GTA4 on the 360. They hold considerable market share right now in next gen consoles, yet still feel they need to update their hardware to keep up in a war they are winning. They know the original XBox was by and by, a failure, and are grasping at every possible straw to make sure the 360 is a long term success. Some of these moves almost reek of desperation.

All the while, Sony is getting crushed in the media, sued by like like 3 different companies, PS3 sales suck stateside, and the inventor of the damn thing just quit. Yet they are quietly adding great features through free firmware updates, gearing up for several huge game launches, and ever so slowly creeping up in sales. Combine that with Blu-Ray taking some dramatic steps in winning the HD format war, and it seems like Sony is the one that knows what they are doing, not Microsoft.

That's a very slanted take on things.

Quote :

Most of those I would consider not resting on their laurels. Many consider Sony's behavior arrogant more than experienced.

Quote :
"They know the original XBox was by and by, a failure"

That depends on your definition of failure. MS definitely lost a ton of money (I want to say 2 billion, but not sure), but they gained a lot of marketshare and established good relationships with 3rd party companies. Moreover they're a American company trying to break into a business dominated by the Japanese, which played a substantial role in the slow sales. Now we're seeing the spread of previous PS-exclusive series to the 360 like Devil May Cry and Virtua Fighter.

Quote :
"Yet they are quietly adding great features through free firmware updates, gearing up for several huge game launches, and ever so slowly creeping up in sales. "

And MS is doing the first two as well and as I understand, Sony still lags behind on many features the 360 already has. And those huge game launches might not be enough to overcome the price tag.

Quote :

I think the Elite was mostly a move to keep up with the tech-heads. Both MS and Sony market themselves as part of the "HD revolution" (or whatever), so the addition of HDMI closes a large gap. The HD increase could be contributed to the unexpected popularity of downloading TV shows to the 360 (which outpaces Amazon's sales of TV shows).

Do they? That first sentence is partially the result of mistakes Sony made in the early days of their system. Some of the huge game launches might not even make it before the critical 2007 holiday season (like FFXIII and MGS4). I haven't any creeping up in sales either (meaning a higher rate of sold systems compared to the previous months).

At the end of the day, everything goes back to that price tag. The 360 has pretty much Halo and.... well, Halo for exclusives. Sony has some impressive franchises, but will they be compelling enough to get people to pick up the system? Is the price going to drop anytime soon?

Here's the problems

xbox 360 has SHIT build quality, the damn thing bricks at a drop of a hat

ps3 has no games YET, a bunch of games in the future will be released on all 3 though (wii, ps, xbox)

games people want to play arent really exclusive, gta will hit both, the next iteration of guitar hero will hit all 3.

if you like final fantasy jap shit, get a ps3

if you like gears of war, get a 360

is basically right.

What it really comes down to is what you want to play.

I fully intend to get a PS3 if they put a decent price drop on it, just because there's never been an Xbox or 360 exclusive game that would really justify me buying the system.

^^^At the moment I'd say 360. A recent Gamespot article shows that with games released on both systems, 360 games still outdo PS3 games graphically. That'll probably change in a year or so though. PS3 also offers up free online play, if that matters to you.

I dont even want to get involved in this thread, but I find it pretty ironic that one of the OP's major 'points' is Sony's lack of hardware reliability.

Xbox 360 has the WORST reliability I've ever seen from a game console.

Laughable.

if you like sports games, dont care about exclusives like

the final fantasy jap shit on ps3

halo/gears on xbox 360

Here's what you consider

1)Price
PS3 costs more (someone post prices of ps3 vs xbox vs xbox elite)

2) Online
Do you want a good online experience? Though you pay for xbox live, its very very good. On top of excellent online play, you can download game demos and extras (I have a TON of FREE extras for madden downloaded, throwback jerseys etc)

PERSONALLY

I'm happy with 360, I like sports games, dont play jap games, and like gears of war. I wish Xbox had the ps3's build quality and played BD, but what you gonna do.

The newest Ace Combat is exclusive to the 360.

That said, I own more games for my 360, but I still enjoy my PS3. I also own more Blu-Ray's than I do HD-DVD's right now, but that could change in the next few weeks/months.

As for Exclusives I'm looking forward to:

360 - Mass Effect, Bioshock, maybe Halo 3 (I actually need to play completely through the first two still....) and Too Human

PS3 - Lair, Ratchet & Clank, and probably Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Wii - Metroid Prime 3, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy
