I tried pulling up one of the old speeding threads, but one i couldn't reply to becuase it's locked, the others are too old. Yes, I used the "search" feature.

I got pulled in Graham county (Mebane area). The State trooper said it was becuase he clocked me at 80 in a 65. Yes I was speeding, I was moving with traffic, my bad, i got caught, I didn't think I was going that fast but whatever.

I've never been pulled for anything, no accidents nothing, so this is my first court anything.

My question is should I get a lawyer, or show up myself and try to get it reduced to 9 over. Is it really as easy as asking to get it reduced to 9 over?

Part II)
I was traveling with a group of people. we were in two seperate vehicles and both of us got pulled over. after getting back on the road my friend called me and told me that my vehicle is listed on his ticket, as well as on my ticket. Both his name and driver's license number is correct, but the vehicle is wrong, so there are two tickets out there for both of us driving the same vehicle at the same time on the same day.

Does this effect anything?

Is my best choice to get it reduced to 9 over? or should I hire a lawyer?

yes, it is exactly that easy to get it reduced. I've done it several times in several different counties

and was this on I-85? that's a real speed trap area - be careful through there from now on!

yea, on 85 in the speed trap area, I didn't even think about it, i was moving with traffic and BAM blue lights....

oh well,

does a 9 over still go to insurance? even if I have no previous problems?

^go yourself and ask for a PJC.....I did this a few years ago no problem...won't go on your ins either. You could get a lawyer, but it's not necessary imo.

I read that a PFJ is one per household per 3 years?

What is a household, I live at school not at my parents house?

Do i have one seperate from theirs? Or am I still in their household becuase I am on their insurance policy?

and no i do not think i am going to try to use a PFJ, I am going to either get a lawyer or do it myself, but I don't want insurance to go up.

worked fine for me, no lawyer fees, no ins increase, and it was long enough ago that I can use one again if need be. I'd do the same thing again.

well you can get the same thing if you ask the assn. da to reduce it to 9 over and you still have it to use if you fuck up big time

my biggest question right now is, does 9 over go to insurance.

I've seen in some other threads that it can? but only if they want to charge you more? seems like they would want to, but does a 9 over always get reported to insurance?

just show up at court and plead 'no contest' and you'll be fine

i've had 4 speeding tickets within the last 4 years between 13mph-17mph over the limit and they've reduced them all to 9 over every single time, no lawyer necessary, no points on my license, no insurance increases, i still pay only $70/month

***total loss was $440 for all 4 tickets ($110 court fees x 4 tickets)***

"review Raleigh police officers' use of a city code violation to cite speeders. The N&O reported Sunday that Raleigh police treated about a quarter of the 20,000 people they reprimanded for speeding with a city code citation instead of a ticket for breaking state law. The city code citation carries no insurance or driving record penalties. Raleigh police have no policy on which drivers get this break.
"

find out about that in that area.....also, might want to look into a improper equipment reduction

^9 over still carries insurance penalties tho, doesn't it?

^^only if they report it to the insurance company, which is rarely the case, unless you're out-of-state

but even still, i've had an out-of-state ticket that wasn't reported to my insurance company

Just walk in and get it reduced to 9 over they do this a thousand times a day (they ask you if you want to do this when you show up). In addition, it is not reported and your insurance won't know and your rates won't increase.

you would waste money on a lawyer for this

i don't know how many people i have seen ask the da for a speed reduction and it not have an effect on their insurances.

please save your money and just be at the court house early before court starts and the da ALWAYS handles traffic tickets before the judges gets to the bench.

I'm pretty sure that's Alamance County, right? Graham is pretty close to me, but not SUPER close. it's also the one town I've noticed (besides greensboro) out here that has city frontage on the interstate (like city limit signs)

i bet that town pulls in a million dollars or more a year just off the speeding ticket revenue they get from having half a mile on 85/40.

definitely go with the go to court yourself FIRST. ive been in wake, durham, and a couple others, and the aDA has always offered the plea deal without asking... if the A/DA doesn't offer you the deal, ask about it. if they say no, tell them you need time to contact a lawyer and ask for a continuance.

worst case scenario, everyone is an ass and you get scolded twice.. by the ada and the judge, but you WILL DEFINITELY still get a new date and opportunity to hire/call a lawyer. and if you need a lawyer, i can get you a recommendation from one here in GSO. i just got a letter last week. i got a 14 over on that part of 40, except it was right inside guilford county. took it to my lawyer, and he got it reduced to 0 over. aka dropped. guess i wasnt really speeding.

and dont take a PJC, especially if you ever plan on doing anything fun in your life. those things come in handy for much bigger stuff and get wasted on tickets all the time.

i know i feel i am above the common wolfweb person when it comes to the law (although I DID just lose a speeding ticket completely AHEM)... seriously even if you dont listen to me, call a lawyer (you will get letters next week) and ask for advice. ( the guys that mail out letters arent bad lawyers btw. theyre SMART!!!1)

just dont listen to "the wolfweb".

^ thanks,

I'm taking in all the information and then deciding.

but thanks

i have a $110 ticket at 30 dollars in court costs.....

Can i get a lawyer for that/less to possibly get it reduced to 0? not a ticket?

you can use a PJC more than once every 3 years...if its something as relatively insignificant as a speeding ticket they usually dont check...they'll just ask you if you've had a PJC

hypothetically if you get another ticket in a year for speeding, go to court, ask about a PJC, they'll say have you had one before you say "i dont think so" and they'll give you another...they just want your money

ok, I thought i read it the other way... anyways, can i get a lawyer for less than that, or willl i have to pay court costs either way, so a lawyer will cost a lot more?

It seems now the best choice for me is to go to court myself and get it down to 9 over.

if you use your PJC and get caught again w/in the time frame then both tickets will count against you

i have had 16 speeding tickest
12 were reduced to 9 over

used my PFJ last year for an unsafe movement charge which was worse than my speeding tickets and now way to reduce or get out of it unless i hired a lawyer

SAVE YOUR PFJ

they do just want your money, especially in graham.. if you ever see a "welcome to / bumfuck city limit" sign on the side of the road, slow down a lot.

it means you have city, state, and county cops clocking you. all the drug trafficers know this, ese!!1 but seriously, slow it down when you see that

as for getting it cheaper. call the attys that mail you stuff. i know it seems like theyre scumbags cause they solicit business through public info, but thats just smart - ignore it a lot of the ones that SPECIALIZE in traffic will take it for 50-100

the 110+30 is gonna be your minimum, attorney or none, no matter what you plead to. BUT talk to those attys and see if they can promise something better. cause i did just remember that wake county is a bitch about tickets and they wont drop tickets due to improper equipment/etc/etc. you might be able to to this in alamance, and save yourself all those costs.

just dont make a decision from here unless its based on soemthing said by a guy named alamance_attorney - hahha

and the lying about a PJC - you NEVER want to get caught lying about that, unless you wanna go to jail for 30 days on the spot. dont listen to them, im telling you!

^ under 10 miles over it doesn't get reported to the insurance company as a liability of unsafe driving. if you can understand this, i just don't know what to say.

9 over is the insurance limit

however there are other laws when the ticket is above 60mph

for example, a 60 in a 45 reduced to 54 in a 45 is money

79 in a 70 is a different story

back when i had a heavy foot i had a 90 in a 60 and an 84 in a 60 within 8 days...lost license for a month...two tickets over 60mph in 6 months = lose license for a month
