I know there has been talk about this class on here before, But I was wondering what to expect on the midterm? Do I need to read and understand the book really well, or would I be okay to just kinda skim through and find the answers as I am taking it?

i'd say about 1/3 of the exam is on science...1/3 on technology...and the final 1/3 on society...

You don't have time. To prevent this from happening, the TA picks some really obscure stuff that you need to have read for. You won't recall it all just from reading it, but you'll know where to find it. Double-check every answer, even if you're pretty sure.

I went through in the days before and put a labelled post-it at the first page of each incident, and the date.

I also read every last bit of text. I think I ended up with ~5 minutes to spare on the midterm. I'm also a very fast reader.

^^^ Yes, you need to read, well, the assigned reading. And no matter what baloney may come after this post, my posts are the only ones that matter concerning this subject--because I created the exams, I grade the exams and all other assignments, and I calculate final grades.

^^ This is not the case. I simply apply Dr. Earnshaw's philosophy of cause-and-effect questioning--he doesn't like catastrophe dates, locations, or body counts. He wants the student to answer what caused a given catastrophe and what was the positive or negative outcome of the incident. It's as simple as that.

^ Correct.
