(fastest residential connection in the world)
Quote : | "While we've seen all sorts of blazing feats over fiber here lately, it's not often that such wide open bandwidth gets piped directly to a home, but a 75-year old Swede recently changed all that when she had a 40Gbps connection installed in her domicile. 'Course, this fine dame is the mum of Swedish internet legend Peter Löthberg, and she's hoping to somehow "persuade internet operators to invest in faster connections." The trick behind the setup is a "new modulation technique which allows data to be transferred directly between two routers up to 2,000-kilometers apart with no intermediary transponders," and just in case you're wondering, she can download a full high-definition DVD in a painstaking two seconds." |

Your speed is only as fast as your weakest link, so while Im sure that is nice, its an awful waste of money being that not much out there is gonna be able to keep up with it. I'll hand it to sweden though, they do have quite a nice system setup there overall. 7/13/2007 2:58:08 PM |

I'm gonna go with fiber optics on this one rather than ethernet 7/13/2007 3:21:00 PM |

ethernet and fiber optics are not mutually exclusive.
10, 100, 1000, and 10G are all spec'd for fiber. 7/13/2007 4:01:18 PM |

You want crazy???? Here is CRAZY:
Quote : | ""A 75-year-old woman from Karlstad in central Sweden has been given a scorching 40 Gbps internet connection — the fastest residential connection anywhere in the world. Sigbritt Löthberg is the mother of Swedish internet guru Peter Löthberg, who is using his mother to prove that fiber networks can deliver a cost-effective, ultra-fast connection. Sigbritt, who has never owned a computer before, can now watch 1,500 HDTV channels simultaneously or download a whole high definition DVD in two seconds. Apparently 'the hardest part of the whole project was installing Windows on Sigbritt's PC.'"" |
Damn, what a lucky (and probably very confused) 75 year old woman.
What would you do if you had never owned a computer before, were 3/4 of a century old, and were suddenly given the world's fastest internet connection at your house? 7/13/2007 5:04:07 PM |

So, I guess this is cool. Seems alot like having an 800 ft long driveway with no speed limit, feeding directly into the same old shitty 45 mph highway that the rest of us use. 7/13/2007 10:01:35 PM |

Dang. The unc network has up to 10Gbps, mostly 1Gbps. Although i never see higher than 40 Mbps on campus. That's 40 mbps compared to 40,000 mbps (40gbps)!!! Hard to even imagine. 7/15/2007 8:15:38 AM |
