that guy types with his elbows. I'm sure he's trying desperately, and eventually he'll hammer out the right combination of keys to post in this thread.

No, I'll never get on a message board and complain about how the travel industry ranks cities.

^uh oh.
^NYC is great. But mostly when the all the New Yorkers who go to Myrtle beach are at Myrtle beach...not in nyc.

In my opinion:
City:defined by its people and what they create.
Beach:not defined by it's people.

Poetrickster GO!

Seriously though, i've been to all those cities except for Victoria and Seattle and it's an okay list. I might put Quebec City above Santa Fe though.

Seattle is one of my favorites for sailing, fishing, paddling, hiking, mountain climbing, biking, and the fun urban stuff, too.

Not a rabid fan of Montreal (I'm here right now). The roadways are the most god-awful design ever and the weather is pretty bad for the most part (July and August being the exception). As for the people, if you're not French, it's hit-or-miss how you're treated. Certainly not a bad city, but definitely some factors that keep it out of my top 10.

Nobody here in NYC goes to Myrtle Beach. And here in the summer I'd say 90% of the people that go to the beach go to the NJ Shore or The Hamptons. And in the winter time its Miami.

Why would a NY'er spend $350 to fly to SC when they can fly to Miami or SoCal, lol.

And most New Yorkers are very nice people, its just if you get in their way or do something stupid when they're commuting that you better look out

^Oh i know. You missed the joke. Poetrickster argued that many New Yorkers drive down to go to Myrtle Beach in the Myrtle Beach is 1# thread. In actuality quite a few people drive down to Myrtle beach from NYC. For golf, etc. If you ever go there plenty of the license plates are from the northeast. I was joking because i'm not too fond of Myrtle beach and when i go to NYC I was sarcastically saying those people should just go down to Myrtle beach, thus eliminating the fake vacationers from the population.

Oh and i think most people from NYC drive. It's really cheap and they can carry thier golf clubs with them. Yes i know i find it amazing too, and i've been to NYC countless times, played at Carnegie call, etc etc. So i've seen the amazing phenomena too. You're right, why would clearly educated people drive to Myrtle Beach, SC when they can hit up Miami or Southern Cal. I'll be in San Francisco in early august. Laughing at all the New Yorkers in SC.

They are alot better for people our age but I can say Miami and southern cal aren't great places to take your kids on a family vacation.

^Of course they are. Myrtle Beach is? Myrtle beach is the last place i'd take kids if i had them. There's so much cool shit to do in California. I remember going to the San Diego zoo when i was little and loving it along with all the surrounding attractions. There's much more in any city of Cali for kids to do than Myrtle Beach. I remember going to Myrtle beach as a kid with friends families and being bored out of my mind. This is not even an argument. What is there for kids to do at Myrtle beach besides hotel swimming pools, arcades, and the beach? Sure you could name a few more things. Don't even get me started on the long long list of shit kids can do in Southern California.

Of course cali and florida are the best places to vacation. 4 plane tickets for 250 each is 1k. Flying across the country is pretty tough. 2 tanks of gas is 100 bux. letting kids loose in a big city like miami la or san diego is dangerous with all the drugs prostitutes and gangs and stuff.

Myrtle's worse as an overall city but as a beach theres no better beach for the whole family.

^Yeah, if i had kids i'd rather "let them loose" in parts of San Fran or San Diego than Myrtle Beach. Myrtle beach is the exact opposite impression i want my kids to have of the world, if i had kids.

sure they are. beaches are originally made by nature, but they're shaped by the people that build there.

^well my point, as well as many others was you don't "build" there. Buildings should have little, if no effect on the beach. Thus I said beaches should not be defined by it's people... or you get a catastrophe such as Myrtle Beach.

Only if the kids are fucking stupid and sheltered. This isn't 1980 anymore where the downtown area of big cities are cesspools with prostitution and drug pushers.

^Yeah you usually only hear that type of comment from people who haven't been to any big cities lately. It's completely different than it was a few decades ago. Simply go to New York, or San Diego or Chicago, they weren't what they were decades ago, and even then it wasn't as bad as people make it out to be.

I'm going to Vancouver for work in September just before school starts for 3 days.. can't wait.

I read that Vancouver has the highest density of bars/restaurants than any city in the world outside of Manhattan.

yeah i love charleston but to compare it to seattle is just stupid

charleston wins the distinction of being one of the very few southern cities worth visiting (note i said visiting...charlotte and raleigh are just dandy but there is no reason to visit them)

was there reasons for the choices? like what did they base the choices on? i've been to a few of the cities on the list and know enough about the rest, but i'm not really seeing the common theme.
