Quote :
"Two girls have been charged with cruelty to animals in connection with the case. They were arrested last Friday, accused of pouring flammable liquid on the cat, only 8 weeks old at the time, and setting it on fire. The girls are being held in Sonoma County's Juvenile Hall. The maximum penalty carried by the charges against them is three years of confinement.

The kitten has undergone two surgeries and had its tail and the tips of its ears amputated. Tina Wright, the lead nurse at the animal hospital, said Adam was scheduled for another surgery on Tuesday and would likely have three more in addition to that. The operations are essentially skin grafts, she said, and would be performed pro bono by Lisa Alexander, a board-certified surgeon.

The weekly surgeries are necessary because the kitten continues to grow, said Wright.

Adam is 12 weeks old now and doing well, said Wright. The cost of his care and medical attention at the shelter would normally cost between $20,000 and $30,000, she said. Anybody interested in contributing to the costs of caring for Adam can go to the animal hospital in the 500 block of E. Cotati Avenue in Cotati or call 707-792-0200.

An 11-year-old boy and his friend said they saw the smoke and heard the cat shrieking while the girls laughed. The boy brought the animal to a woman he knows named Eve, which is how he ended up with the name Adam.

Wright said the kitten was found on June 19 and brought to the animal hospital two days later."

This is a pretty terrible thing and all, but why not just put the kitten to sleep and be done with it? Why spend spend 20K-30K on a single kitten when that money could be used to help hundreds of cats or, god forbid, help hundreds of humans.

was that sarcasm? sometimes its hard to tell on this board

Anyway, you just reminded me of Janism. I was just reading about the monks that only eat free leftover food to avoid having to destroy a living organism. They also wear nets over their face to avoid accidently inhaling bugs.

This reminds me of those two girls who murdered their friend because they wanted to know what murdering someone was like. They started out with kittens.

...kittens are the same as eating plants and inhaling bugs

exact same thing - right?

and no, i understood it pretty clearly - he felt the free service being provided by the surgeon (valued at 20k - 30k) should have been magically spent on saving other animals or humans, as if there was a pile of money sitting there and they were having to decide to save this kitten's life or spend it on something else. did you even read the article?

Now people are going to give butt loads of cash to the vet. Can you seriously not think of a more worthy charitable cause? No, saving a kitten is not the same as inhaling bugs. But the people who think its worth that expense (and donate any amount of money) to save an animal are just as ridiculous as the fruititarian monks.

Btw, I think the girls should be locked up for a long time.

In rural India the average income is less than $2 daily.

I'm not sure if this speaks for America's compassion towards animals or to their fucked up priorities.

poor kitty.
Obviously the cost isn't an issue to the vet helping him, but putting him down might be better than the pain this poor animal is feeling (unless they burnt off his nerve endings)

these girls need to be locked up for a long time.

oh, and

its a cat. people in other countries eat cats. its an animal. a food source put on earthh so that as humans, when were hungry, we can kill it and eat it.

Jesus titty fucking christ..... its just a fucking cat ( although i do think those girls should be locked up, not because they fucked with a cat but because they're crazy bitches and will probably commit murders later on in life ).

^^^people were meant to eat cats? Domestic cats were not "put here" so we can eat them. They are actually domesticated by humans over thousands of years for companionship. You are right about those girls likely to murder in the future. Anyone that will try to kill a cat is just as capable of killing a human.

besides I wouldn't eat that particular cat. Too burnt.

I got a question... how come in some of these news-crime stories they release the names (Michael Vick) of the people arrested and sometimes (such as this case) they do not.

poor kitty

Missed point:
yes, the surgeries that this kitten has/will receive would normally cost an owner 20-30K. However, the vet is performing it pro bono and the only costs are the equipment, supplies, and drugs used to help this kitten. And of course the vet could be making money from clients instead of spending the time fixing this kitten. But it's not costing the vet 20-30K. Probably a few hundred, MAYBE a thousand at the very most. It all depends on how much care the kitten needs. I'm not a vet but I've worked in Vet Hospitals before.
Not that this should stop people from donating towards the cause.

I'm sure the vet considered how much pain the animal was in before she decided to operate.

oh and these girls need to have flammable liquid poured on them, set on fire and then have one of their apendages and their ears amputed. Eye for an eye I say

"Wright said the kitten was found on June 19 and brought to the animal hospital two days later."
Well, from reading the article, it sounds to me like the cat was not really that messed up. He survived more than two days without any medical attention. So, baring infection, I suspect all the vets work is going to restore quality of life for the kitten (stopping the pain, regrowing fir, preventing infection).
