Raleigh's watering restrictions trip up former UNC player, too
Quote : | "There is justice in the world, State fans. Turns out that Sidney Lowe isn't the only basketball celebrity to run afoul of Raleigh's rules on lawn irrigation.
Former UNC star and assistant coach Phil Ford, who lives in the same Brier Creek golf community as N.C. State coach Lowe, also was cited for watering his lawn on the wrong day of the week.
Dozens of State fans accused The News & Observer of singling out Lowe unfairly when it reported Wednesday that he was one of 272 water customers to be issued a warning during the first two weeks of the new rules. His name surfaced as that of the only public figure when the paper matched 30 to 40 addresses to names and phone numbers. Ford's was not among those, but water officials said Friday he also was cited. Ford is now on the coaching staff of the Charlotte Bobcats.
Both of the basketball luminaries were given first-time warnings July 14 for violating the restrictions that limit watering by address. Odd numbers get Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday; even numbers get Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Both men live at even-numbered addresses.
When it comes to basketball, off the court, city inspectors apparently aren't choosing sides.

I was starting to think the N&O wasn't going to report this one. The house he is renting was issued a warning for violating the water conservation regulations just like Sidney was. At the time the N&O did not report this one.
I was starting to think that the N&O was truely biased towards the locals. No one would think that now would they.

Sidney Lowe, whose body is made up of approximately 70% water, could not be reached for comment. 7/23/2007 10:46:15 AM |

good job, irate Wolfpack fans! It's nice that they were made to drag one of their own thru the mud when they try to make a mtn out of a molehill about Sidney... even this consolation (the fact that they had to do it and were covering one of their own)is proof to me that the N&O = enemy of WolfPack nation 7/23/2007 11:16:43 AM |

why do they even do that? Does anyone really care if a public figure got a warning for water violations?7/23/2007 11:19:04 AM |

^^when that public figure threatens to raise the program that you worked so hard to discredit and ultimately destroy during the JimmyV years, then yes.... they care...

I don't know about "happy" now....but when the media repeatedly misrepresents one party while exonerating the other, its kinda hard to not take notice....
"conspiracy" is taking it a bit too far.... its only human for writers and editors to favor their alma mater and denounce their rivals. How many bigtime writers/editors do you think we put into local media orgs anyways? its only human, but they need to know that we will keep them closely in check... 7/23/2007 11:30:08 AM |

I just don't see how Michael Jordan can continue to have him associated with the Bobcats organization after these egregious infractions. 7/23/2007 1:20:03 PM |

when they matched the name of the addresses of those that had been giving warnings, Ford's name did not come up because he was not the owner of the property. Sidney's name came because he owns his property.
Ford is renting the property where he was illegally watering his lawn. That's why his name did not come up initially.
Someone must have tipped the N&O off about him renting the property or someone within CORPUD spilled the beans. 7/23/2007 1:55:56 PM |

So your grass doesn't die. Maybe one day when you own a home and have a lawn to maintain, you'll understand.7/23/2007 2:38:08 PM |

no our grass doesnt die, it may start to look bad (it hasnt in a long time) but who cares?
ive been cutting grass since i was 11 and worked at a golf course for over a year mowing the grass
places like golf courses need water, the grass is much shorter and delicate in spot (greens and tees) but the course i worked at didn water much if any of the fairway
all the yards I cut when i was younger were never watered and never died (plus we dont have winter grass) 7/23/2007 3:31:03 PM |

well if you have a place with a clay underlay...drainage problems
there are numerous reasons why you need to water lawns if you worked at a golf course and didnt learn that stuff, you prolly wont do well in real life experiences on jobs and stuff
its all in the land and in the type of grass and the area that someone lives in. 7/23/2007 3:33:16 PM |
