Shortly after 12 p.m., the driver was spotted speeding eastbound on Bethany Home Road from Seventh Street. About 30 minutes later, after weaving through traffic, he pulled into an AM/PM store at 32nd Street, got out and ran inside. Police said the man bought a pack of cigarettes, handed the clerk $20 and left without the change. The pursuit resumed, with officers spreading stop sticks in an unsuccessful attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver finally pulled over to the curb in a residential area near 22nd Street, about three blocks south of Windsor Avenue.
