I would like to set up my own web server on my old HP computer. I'm thinking about using CentOS with no windows manager installed. Ideas? Suggestions?

I have an Ubuntu box with XAMPP installed. Makes it a breeze. I've also had good results with Fedora and XAMPP.

I second Ubuntu. I have a box with the standard LAMP install that I use as a file, proxy, and web server. Works great, easy to install and maintain.

ask 10 different people and you'll get 20 different answers when it comes to which Linux is best for what.

Pretty much any of them will work. If you work in IT and plan on using RHEL then CentOs is the way to go, since it's a RHEL clone and all.
