So I was at work at the Macaroni Grill on Sunday, when one of the iron skillets I was delivering slid down the tray right into my neck/jaw area on the left side of my face.
Needless to say, the 1200 degree skillet burned my skin, not as bad as it could have (no blisters or anything like that), but left notable discoloration on the side of my face. I put the burn salve we had at work on it immediately. Ever since then, I've been putting Bactine and Neosporin on it.
Is there anything else I should do to offset the discoloration? I've been thinking of going to the tanning booth at my gym, which would make everything darker, but maybe make things a little bit more even.
Or I could just wait a year for the skin to exfoliate and even out, I don't know. 7/31/2007 5:05:38 PM |

I get a little weird and paranoid about scars. I'm a performing artist. I talked to some of the girls at work who deal with burns all the time. Their stuff goes away in about two weeks. They do have the estrogen advantage, but yeah, I'll chill out for the time being. 7/31/2007 5:21:10 PM |

if its really just a first degree burn you arent going to have any scars, unless maybe you go and do some stupid shit like lay in a tanning bed and make it worse 7/31/2007 5:24:38 PM |

my roommate was burned in a similar way and unfortunately the discoloration never completely went away--so if it really bothers you, you might end up having to have it lasered or something 7/31/2007 5:27:05 PM |

give it time to heal, keep it clean, and don't use a tanning bed. should be just fine and shouldn't leave any scars. 7/31/2007 5:34:07 PM |

Quote : | "Minor burns usually heal without further treatment. They may heal with pigment changes, meaning the healed area may be a different color from the surrounding skin. Watch for signs of infection, such as increased pain, redness, fever, swelling or oozing. If infection develops, seek medical help. Avoid re-injuring or tanning if the burns are less than a year old — doing so may cause more extensive pigmentation changes. Use sunscreen on the area for at least a year." |

Why is the Macaroni Grill encouraging serving food on trays anyway? The restaurant I worked at in PA, we did hand service only. The presentation is better, and you don't have a crazy skillet sliding toward your face on a shoulder height tray. 7/31/2007 10:23:53 PM |

Spontaneous you need to go hit up the tanning bed on that fresh burn wound - you fucking idiot. You need to grow a brain and stop burning yourself.
In the future if you ever do something horribly stupid like this again, do NOT post it on the wolfweb, and even better do NOT post your moronic solutions like going to a tanning bed to deal with a burn.
Golly I hope someone kicks you in the nuts just for being so stupid. 7/31/2007 11:09:55 PM |

tanning...on a burn.
Thank you for making my goddamned night.
That said- scarring depends a lot on the person. I scar super easy and it wont fade for a couple years, other folks have no problem, if you dont scar for every little cut, i wouldnt worry too much. 8/1/2007 12:41:05 AM |

I just wanted to jump on the train and say tanning with a fresh burn is full of lolz
Also if the skillet was 1200 degrees and it even touched your face you would have dropped the whole lot and ended up with something way worse than 1'st degree.

Burning a burn sounds like an EXCELLENT idea for treatment.
I'd suggest taking a vitamin E supplement until it is healed. 8/2/2007 1:43:00 PM |

If it is a first degree burn then it won't scar because the injury is not extending past the epidermis. The fact that there was no associated blistering indicates that it is most likely afirst degree burn, and will neither damage your skin nor your vanity. 8/3/2007 10:07:01 PM |
ambrosia1231 eeeeeeeeeevil 76471 Posts user info edit post |
I've got worse scars from small, casual burns where I had no blisters than from when I fell on a lit kerosene heater and seared the shit out of my leg.
I know you said 'most likely', but some people scar if you look at them cross-eyed
But since he was thinking about tanning a burn, I have zero sympathy. 8/3/2007 10:33:22 PM |

i would assume he meant tanning the area *around* the burn... you know, by covering the burn area, so it's voided during the tan.
but still...
the waitstaff/drama-queen/performance-artist 1200-degree skillet thing is retarded as all fuck.
