A friend of mine is just starting her career as a teacher and her pyscho ex boyfriend of the last 4 years is apparently trying to make it difficult for her. He has been threatening to send pictures of her (nothing too racy, but bad enough) to her principals and other teachers if she doesnt come back to him. Would that actually have the effect he's hoping it will, and what could be done to prevent it without beating the shit out of him? This should have interesting responses. flame on.

On behalf of TWW, I request that said evidence (pictures) should be posted in this thread as public record so that the court of TWW could continue this investigation

one call to the police and he will be behind bars.

and even if he sends the pics, they won't have any effect, unless the pics show some unlawful act.

Thats what shes afraid of, but that all seems to be more teachers who sent stuff to students, or teachers who had stuff on the internet.

you mean the american idol scandals, or the beauty pageant scandals?

as i said, unless she is doing something illegal in the pics, or something legal that teachers shouldn't do, they will have no effect.

who knows what the pics are. the OP should explain more. he says they are nothing racy, but "bad enough". what does that mean???? bad enough for what? and if they are not sexual in nature, in what sense are they bad/controversial? i dont'get it.

what if they are naked pics of her inside her house, or pics of her having sex with her bf. is that illegal, or is that something teachers aren't allowed to do?

yeah i see no problems with that.

this was something that was done in private, and was supposed to stay privare. furthermore, this was a woman and man together, not some private sex party.

so, since this was neither posted by herself on the internet, and nor was it some drunken orgy, she is safe.

she should tell him she is sorry for ending the relationship (just to avoid drama), and that she want to please be left alone. if he relents, fine. otherwise, she should threaten him that she could call the police (but not in a threatening tone/manner), and that he could get into serious trouble, but she doesn't want it to happen.

if he still doesn't stop, then it is time to be angry on the phone and threaten police action. at this stage, 90+% of psychos would stop. but if he doesn't, then it is time to call the police.

end of story.

^ that's just stupid, and while i condemn it, again, that's a funamentally different situation.

modeling is a public affair. those pics, as described by the OP were private and only between her and one man.

look, in the end, anything is possible. her school could be run by uptight prude assholes who think that couples taking pics of themselves doing sexual stuff is sinful or wrong or deviant, etc. and so, they might fire her.

but in her case, i am sure, if she sued, she would win big time.

it was a question ass. Given teacher scandals (women on boys), this wouldn't be particularly surprising.

Are they specific? I mean she could file a harassment complaint, they will at minimum visit him personally and tell him to stop. The longer it continues he is just gonna get more brazen, might as well take a stand now.

I can't believe nobody's suggested actually talking to the principal about it before he gets the chance to. If the principal is a reasonable man (or woman), then she should be able to have a short meeting with him and explain the situation, and simply tell him that she is being blackmailed, or being threatened.

There is not much she can do. She is in a bad situation. That is why you really have to be careful of doing anything that puts you in a bad situation down the road. She can go and tell her principal part of the story but then he will know something is going on. Going to the cops probably will not stop him. he can always post on the internet and then its over. Her best chance is to get the guy to give her the pics and the video.

He will know "what's going on"? Yeah… that's the point. So he's not blindsided and has a knee-jerk reaction when/if he gets these pictures. If he's a good principal, then he will understand that she is being blackmailed and this has nothing to do with her job.

^^well, you could say that, even though if it were ever prosecuted, there is a supreme court case that basically deemed all crimes dealing with sex between consenting adults as unconstitutional.

to repeat what's already been said - tell her to talk to her principle and department head.

Honestly, if the ex-bf does send the pictures then all the harm its going to do is embarrass her. Unless it's an illegal act or involves a student there would be no need for the school to get involved. But giving the principle the heads up is a good idea.
She could find out if there was a way to block his email address from the schools webmail. but it wouldn't stop him from creating a new account. I know at our school an individual cannot email the entire school system without being a school employee. All he could do would be to look up the principle and other teachers emails on the schools website. Most principles emails go through a secretary/assistant first so she should warn that person too. Our principle rarely reads his own email.

It wouldn't hurt to talk to her schools HR dept and/or talk to a police officer about her options for harassment charges.
Does this pyscho ex bf have parents she could contact? I'd assume after a 4 year relationship she would know them.. maybe she could explaint to them that their son is crazy and they could intervene. It would probably embarass him at the least. Or she could meet with him and try to talk things over with him. Remind him why they broke up in the first place. I'd suggest in public place with maybe a friend or 2 nearby.. or mutual friends. That way the friends can call him a pos and he might back down...

shrug

While legally that might be what should happen, that is not what would happen. First of all, coworkers could make her work experience unpleasant (ranging from her feeling like an outcast to being harassed), and second there was a case earlier this year where a teacher who was in porn (long before she became a teacher) got fired.

It doesn't matter if it's perfectly legal or done in the privacy of her home, the school will see it as her being a bad role model and find some way to fire her. Sure you can fight it in court, and maybe she'd win.... but would she really ever want to go back to work there after that happens?

Quote :
"but in her case, i am sure, if she sued, she would win big time"

I thought the goal was to keep her job and avoid embarrassment? If she really doesn't care about the embarrassment, she might as well show the entire staff the pictures herself. Then the threat doesn't work anymore. But if she got fired for that, it would take a really understanding principal at her next place of employment to hire her (and what is to stop the guy from just doing it again?).
