I have a 95 civic, tonight when i went to start it i put the key it, it started beeping, lights came on as usual, then when i turned the ignition everything shut off. I tried jumping it, it seems to be low on power but still when i turn the key the car powers off and wont start. Also its started making a thumpthumpthump noise that sounds like its right behind the steering wheel when i try to start it... am i fucked?

If it wouldn't start when being jumped, then it is probably your starter. Advanced auto will do a free electrical system check on your car.

They are relatively easy to put in, and many of us on here would do it for you for a small fee (myself included)

it finally started after leaving it with the jumpers in for like 15 minutes... so i left it running for a while, tried turning it off then on again and it was back to not working.

if it is the starter, how much aprox do you think it would cost to get a new one? I saw some on ebay for like 25$ but is that reliable? I don't know too much about cars really, and mines sort of a piece of shit so i'm not even sure if paying over 150$ to get it fixed is worth it.

So, first things first.
In the day light, open your hood and check your battery. Do you have a CHIA pet growing on the terminals. If you wiggle the wires, do the move on the terminal. Can you follow the wire to the starter, if so, can you wiggle the wire there?

IF you can see the starter, can you bang on it with a hammer or metal rod? Then check to see if it starts easier.
