Maybe he's doing this because he would've been indicted, regardless?
Either way, this move no doubt has DIABOLICAL motives.

so, say he retires. what's to keep him from doing the exact same job he does now even if he's not on the payroll? 8/13/2007 10:12:21 AM |

^ yeah, i was wondering the same thing. what's to stop him from, you know, hanging out at the White House on his spare time. or using his RNC email accounts to just "keep up with old buddies" 8/13/2007 10:41:18 AM |

I'd assume he'll lose his security clearances. 8/13/2007 10:44:10 AM |

didn't some other "retired" guy not lose his security clearance recently? i might just be making this up in my head, but i seem to recall that. 8/13/2007 10:53:40 AM |

^^^ He'll retain his clearances, but he'll lose his "need to know" status.

What ^ said about the clearance, although I would suspect the President or any high level cabinet official can reinstate his need to know whenever they please. 8/13/2007 11:14:47 AM |

^^ i googled every combination I could to try to spell that damned word, and every spelling came up with lots of hits, but i couldn't get "define: ____" to work for any of them, so i just gave up. 8/13/2007 11:39:05 AM |

I guess this makes sense, though.
What more is there for him to do? This is probably him facing the reality that Bush is a lame duck.
Plus, I'd imagine it helps the RNC every time a controversial figure leaves the White House. 8/13/2007 12:08:15 PM |

as in, "Nice try, but I'm not gonna answer that."
