Ok so I got contacted by a lady who is looking for a "traveling trainer" and I wanted to run it by TWW to see what others thought...

Job details:
Training clients on new software that they have purchased for their corporations.
Full time travel: ie. leave on Sunday night come back Friday night or Saturday morning, with the option of staying in a hotel all weekend instead of coming home.
Travel/rental car is payed for by them.
I'll get a per diem for food
It's a one year contract


Pros:
Travel all over the US on someone else's dime.(I do like traveling, but a year of traveling week to week seems like it would get old)

Pay is decent. I can make more though doing a cubicle job. But since I sold my house I have no bills and no responsibilities to anyone. I can crash at my Moms or friends when I'm back in town.


Cons:
Committing to them for a year and missing out on a job in something I am more interested in.



any thoughts?

under "Cons" you should add staying in a hotel room for about 275 nights a year. That gets old really, really fast.

Doesn't sound like a good job if you can earn more sitting in a cubicle.

Also, seems you don't really find the job interesting.

Hence, don't go for it, imo.

traveling that much you will burn out quickly - i hate traveling anymore than monday morning ->thursday night - on a rare occassion i'll do monday morning->friday and try to avoid at all costs sunday night->friday

unless you have no ties - friends/family locally then i'd advise against it

the turnaround for our traveling roles is the highest in the company. gets old real quick. i am a trainer right now though and really enjoy that. gotta weigh it out.

i'm a trainer and i rarely have to travel, except for conventions and all that.

if you're good, you make them come to you.

i've been doing this since may. i knew it wasn't going to last long, and it didn't once i found out my wife is pregnant. my last day is this friday. shame, since i've been with the company for 6 years. i'll probably still stay on as a consultant, just don't want to do the traveling anymore

Yeah I'm not into the whole teaching thing... I've taught some classes in the Army and also trained new employees at various jobs I've had and I'm more into technical work than teaching/training.

But. I do enjoy traveling and I've traveled enough to know what I would be getting into as far as hotel life and so on. I couldn't live out of a hotel for a career but a year would be cool. Plus if I ever want to do something like this, this is the perfect time since I have no real family/gf/wife/home/etc ties to keep me here.


Not sure what exactly what the software is. I'm supposed to go in on Wed. and talk to the lady about it in more detail. She does want me to "teach" her something in Word or Excel so she can evaluate how I teach something.

i'd say do it, since you have nothing to tie you down.

plus if you are into nightlife, it's nice to go out to different places in every city you visit.

I travel just about that much for my job. I say go for it. Like you said, you're young with very few ties. If you're the least bit interested in travelling now's the time to do it. That was my take on it and it's been a good year and a half. Being on the road gets old from time to time but I'd definitely say the pros outweight the cons.

smart move. I used to travel monday morning through thurs evening and that fucking sucked.
