My cat is adorable, 3 years old, adopted from the spca and legit with my apt complex. that part cost ~$400
however...
She has caused me to have a $3,000 couch cleaned twice, and just defecated in a box of expensive musical gear. I am teetering between isolation punishment, and eventual release back into the rest of the house, or 'evicting' her. I am dead serious about being willing to give her up, if there is no good reason to keep her...my girlfriend lives with me, and loves her as much as I do, but doesn't consider 'eviction' an option. what do I do? *note* my gf's cat is a factor, as it is buddies with mine.

First, I knew just from the title this was about a cat. Second, why would you release the cat back into the entire house after all this trouble its causing you? I love dogs and cats, but there comes a time they're just not worth the effort; if you're gf gets all hysterical/pissy with you let her know it's driving you crazy, give her a chance or incentive to help it out, and if all else fails I'd just try to put it up for adoption so you know it's got a good home.

At least one attempt at re-teaching her is worthwhile I think.

Also- make sure that the box is clean enough for her, as if it's not they will go elsewhere. Some cats are picky to the point of it has to be cleaned once a day. Also- if you have more than one, make sure there's more than one litterbox. (If you dont already, read my first sentence twice).

In all seriousness- well, aside from the "dont evict your cat" typical response, if the other cat is buddies with yours then you're also punishing that cat too by taking away it's playmate. Also- sure which cat did it? If you didnt see it happen - it could have been the other one this time.

i know it was her, because i heard her behind me making noise, i saw her in a box of stuff, she looked me in the eye, and released urine into the box. i know this because i checked, and came away with warm urine on my fingers. i know i would be punishing the other cat, but to qualify that cat, it was abused, and malnourished, we took her in, and she is now happy and slightly obese - we have had her the longest - the one this thread is about has had a happy home the whole time, knowing nothing but love and snuggles.

Make it an indoor/outdoor cat. The behaior problems will almost certainly stop and it may even get run over whic would also solve your problem.

man i feel you

i am not on the verge of getting rid of my cats, but i never realized that i hated cat hair so much until i owned two cats. i also had to take down some decorations because of them, had to remove my chess boards that i had sitting around for guests to look at, and i had to barricade my blinds of which they have pretty much destroyed. also, i have the small area rug, about 3x2, and for the life of me, i can't get them from just messing it u all the time. its really starting to get annoying to the point that i am frustrated at times. but they are cool, and the thing is when i get a house, with more space, which means less ways to keep them away from more valuable stuff, i just dunno what i am going to do.

well i've been told that lemon(fresh) will deter them, ima try that - hit up the baseboards etc.
they have 4 litter boxes, btw. i spoil my cats, they have the best life imaginable. i go so far as to buy food that has meat as the first ingredient, and dustless litter. i wash their water bowl every night, before refilling it. maybe i'm skewed, but i dont think i am to blame for this.

it might have a UTI, cats will pee on your stuff and make sure you see them do it to if they have an infection, its their way of letting you know they are in pain or something. at least, that is what always happened with my cats.

For this pee/poop problem, NO GO is awesome. It worked with one of my cats, but now I don't know what else to do with her. But I believe that its just her, I think someone else would have better results. You can get it at Petco, and as with all their products, keep your receipt and get your money back if it don't work. Give it a try, its better than getting rid of her or cleaning up poop all the time!

My cat was a feral rescue and has used the litter box religiously from day 1.

That said, if you have all those litter boxes and the cat has only done this a few times, but still uses the box too...I'd say it's an asshole.

Generally I'd say: make sure the litter box is AWAY from food, keep it clean, keep it private, make sure your cat doesn't find the litter itself offensive (some are very picky), thoroughly clean the soiled areas with one of those cat cleaners so there is less chance of a repeat (once the smell is there it's hard to get rid of and they'll keep associating it with peeing).

P.S. Since you've caught her peeing, you might as well TRY to squirt her with a water gun next time, sure as hell it'd make her think twice about peeing on a specific thing again. Or, as soon as you are suspicious that she's gonna poo/pee snatch her up and drop her in the litter box.
