I am looking for a new laptop which costs around 600 before any rebates. I saw a several deals on slickdeals.net, but I am not sure what is the best buy.
The biggest thing I am concerned about is Vista because its current reputation isn't so hot and it sounds like you need over a gig of RAM for it to run decently. A lot of the computers mentioned in the deals only have 512.
Are there any places that are offering new laptops which run WinXP? I don't want a refurb. 9/2/2007 2:59:43 PM |

For that budget, I have to ask: Do you really need a laptop? 9/2/2007 3:28:49 PM |

A new macbook for 600? where?
I don't need a high end laptop for what I am using it for so the low end laptops are ok. I just need it fast enough to load a few programs quickly

^^Yes, you can still order almost all Dell systems (through small business or EPP) with an XP configuration. Same for HP I believe and definitely for Lenovo and Sony laptops. 9/2/2007 7:19:04 PM |

I've never had any issues with Dell refurb. laptops, FWIW, and you can snag some with WinXP. I still use & greatly prefer WinXP.
Also, don't even use XP -- let alone Vista -- without at least 1GB of RAM, seriously. 9/3/2007 5:14:58 AM |

My gf is looking for a low end laptop for basic word processing, spreadsheets, and wireless internet browsing. Also looking to keep it below $600. Any recommendations? 9/5/2007 9:51:04 AM |

On a notebook, it's worth it to spend a little more. Buy Lenovo or Apple. Short of that, used Thinkpad... Either of these computers will hold their value, and can be re-sold after some use/when time to upgrade as well, if you're on a tight budget Ahmet 9/5/2007 10:03:18 AM |
