don't know if anyone is interested, but I saw this posted on packpride. Thought about Tech Talk, but figured it would get more traffic here. Please move if it should be somewhere else.

i dont really get this
why would people with potential business ideas submit them to this website, and hope that their ideas don't get ripped off? 9/8/2007 11:28:19 PM |

^^you don't have to be a member to see the free boards . . . only to post. This is what the first post says:
Quote : | "Just to give you guys a heads up. The company I work for is holding a contest for NCSU students (and alums) who have good web ideas. The grand prize is 15K plus office space, computers, etc. All the stuff you need to be called a crappy startup company.
We tried to do this last year and only got a couple of entries that we passed on. That said, this year we have committed to giving the money out no matter what. So that means if the best idea is a web based system to track toe nail growth.....
Check it out.

they probably take a large percentage of ownership if you accomplish anything marginally successful. 9/9/2007 11:07:16 AM |

This is legit.
They did this last year and then canceled the contest because it's not worth the investment. And I don't think anyone actually submitted a viable idea. I'd planned to enter with robster, but it's an insane commitment for almost no payoff

I tried to visit their site today (http://www.myfirststartup.com/) and it is not working. When I read their forum the other day, they said if you win the prize, they will get a 50% stake in your company. That sounds a lot for 15K if your idea is great. 9/17/2007 2:49:17 PM |

^It's a complete ripoff. There are plenty of small VC's you can get 20-25K of startup and only have to give up a 20% company stake, and they don't make you go at it competition style.
It's no wonder no one entered this last year. 9/17/2007 3:14:23 PM |
