I had a cornsnake growing up and really liked it, but ive always wanted a ball python, if you have one or know of someone who has one and is trying to get rid of it id really like to know.

why would you want a ball python? get a columbian boa (red-tailed), or a burmese python over a ball.

^dude you are a god damn idiot. people like you are the reason that owning large snakes is becoming a legal issue. People buy them and when they get huge, they get released or neglected. You know why there is a blooming population of burmese pythons in the everglades? People who buy them as babies and then release them illegally when they get bigger. Its fuckin ignorant. Would you buy a puppy and sell it once it got bigger?



stick to a ball python tallpaul. They stay small relative to other pythons and are easily maintained

i dont know about you, but i never had the same attachment to any of my snakes that i did to a dog. ntm a columbian will usually only get to 9ft max so he might not feel the need to sell it once it matures.

and please point out where i advised him to release/neglect a snake. thx

^Im not sure as to how much experience you have in selling snakes or owning them. It's very difficult to start selling them, become a certified shipper and hell, even find someone to buy your 9 foot snake. Do you know how hard and costly it is to ship a 9 foot animal? Now for what this guy is looking for, he'll be buying a run-of-the-mill python that will cost 50-75 bucks at most if he goes to the reptile show. I doubt he'll be buying any expensive morphs that can be easily (well, more easily) sold. If he's lucky enough to find someone (locally without shipping) experienced enough to handle a 9 foot snake, someone with the know-how and resources (lots of rats or guinea pigs), then he MAY get his money back. If the snake is lucky, it'll end up on the Adoption page of some animal shelter and the guy will not get any money back.


The majority of people who buy snakes as first time owners or inexperienced keepers should avoid large pythons or boas. If you have the know-how, then I am 100% for it. Large snakes are badass and there are thousands of people who happily keep them in a responsible manner


Im not saying that you told him to release it or neglect it. Im simply saying that it's a growing issue with people buying animals they are not capable of handling or taking care of. Without knowing you or what experience you have with these snakes, you sound like every other person who buys a snake and then when it gets too big to handle it's like "oh well i can just get rid of it."

A ball python, for this guy who has only owned a corn snake, would be a manageable size, likely have a good temperment (unlike many boas and large pythons) and is not something that will one day require an enormous tank or enclosure (and close supervision as snakes of that size can be dangerous.)

blood ball pythons are nice too.
same length with a little more girth and nicer markings.

check Craigslist and call Wake and Durham Animal Control. I just talked to a Durham Animal Control Lt. and she says they get in a few pythons and boas every month.

dude u just missed the reptile show...i have two balls right now..i was thinking about selling them to get a red tail, but just cant part from them.. the only bad thing about balls is that they are fickle eaters...my two year old one has never had any problems..however my 7 year old one that i bought in Jan. went 22 Weeks without eating..yes the last time he ate was dead week in april...he just shed last week and ate 2 Large rats yesterday! shit was crazy...guess he thought it was winter..lol

if i decide to part ill let u know...btw check out carolina pet supply in garner..i dont usually recommend pet stores but they gotta good selection..its like 7 min from state..they have some in there but u'll pay 60 or 70 bucks for it..just make sure u check it outthoroughly before buying it

Not really... Dumbass PETA bitches who don't think people should be able to own any animals are the reasons for the repeated attempts to get this bill passed. However much I agree with Lobes point he is not correct in his assumption that something logical like irresponsible ownership is what is giving this bill strength. Actually Michael Vicks dumbass behavior which will probably get millions of dollars donated to animal rights groups is more to blame for the probable eventual passage of this bill.
