i thought it was head gasket, but no cross contamination, and the motor has no compression when spun over... overheated then died. im gonna pull the timing belt cover and inspect but i suspect bomba de agua and el belto.

hell if it needs a head gasket, the complete headset is $65. and ive done these before, nice and easy.

hmmm that's pretty odd to have those two things happen at the same time though, unless the overheating was a pre existing condition.

i hate to bring a worst case scenario, but i hope this isn't what happened:

-head gasket popped w/ no cross fluid contamination (coolant to cylinder only)

-dumbass ran it so hot the cam siezed and snapped the belt

timing belt jumped? if it does it bad enough, that can cause no/low compression on some motors. i assume you also verified it's actually turning the cam?

i've never seen a hg lose compression on all cylinders... i guess it's possible if you really beasted one then kept driving it hot.

I assumed he meant the timing was correct but I could have over assumed on that part. Actually, yeah, I probably did

instantly after making that post i went to autozone and looked up the timing belt shit, and checked it. it was off BUT setting it didnt change anything. So back to the drawing board.

well? could have broken just inside the head...

other than that, i'm stumped.

are you actually putting a guage on it or just going by sound?

My brother in law had one. He put a hole in one of the pistons. Motherfucker spark-knocked so bad prior to all this happening...evidently, knock sensor wasn't doing a damned thing.

yes, its 3 bolts and the valve cover is off so i pulled it. sucker is bueatiful inside and valves move nicely.

I put a guage on it, at the most it had a queef of compression. Like literally a mole fart. This goes for all 4, maybe number four has a hair more. Maybe not. I acquired this compression guage in high school and it sticks at 30 so its not more than 30psi.

I am kinda stumped too, the car was driving fine, then started heating so they pulled over and put water in it, then started on their way again. Reached the destination, came back out of the store and started off again, car heated again and cut off. Would crank but no start.

I bet you got holes in all the pistons. Or the ring lands have no more land to them.

are the piston tops in this engine relieved or smooth? memory tells me they are relieved, but i used to drink a lot and got the swiss cheeze memory, so i cant be sure.

I'd bet a jelly donut or twenty that they are relieved. Hence non-interference on this one.

it'll be one of the wilder things i've ever heard of if that's what it is. i sure as hell can't come up with anything else though, unless they just melted the head gasket out of it running hot.

I did some PI work, big up to jim rockford for the lessons, and got the mechanic at the shop it was originally taken to to tell me the truth about the diagnosis.

Ill pick up a headset this weekend.

so i'm assuming the other dude confirmed it being the head gasket if you're buying a headset...? i want to see pics of that gasket if it's dropped compression on all 4.
