... can go to Hell.

Screwing over poor defenseless women (aka, my wife). I told her not to go there, but she went anyways. Don't ever listen to them when they say you have to put new wiper blades on your car.

She sent me pictures of her old blades, they look like they were purposely torn. And one of them is literally bent in half.

She just called me and said her new wiper blades are scratching the window now.

I wish she was blonde. Atleast that way, I could use the excuse that she's a dumb blonde and didn't know any better.

Who gets bent out of shape over something like this? Maybe you should have done it for her.

Inspection. Blood sucking theives...

She goes in for inspection and they tell her she needs to get her wipers replaced for $12.99 each. So, she calls me and tells me this. I'm like, I'll replace the wipers. But, she starts complaining about how she already waited in line and blah blah blah. Fine, but make sure your wipers aren't broken. Cause I get the feeling they are trying to screw you over.

So she calls back 10 minutes later and says. They look fine. And pays and leaves.

I meet up with her for lunch today and look at the wipers. Frickin' things have been purposely torn. And one of the blades is bent almost in half. I take a look at her reciept and they charged her $13.99 for the pieces of crap. It was raining so she called me a while ago to tell me that she hears a scrapping noise when she turns on the wipers.

... like I said. Jiffy Lube on Western can go to Hell. They knew she was a helpless "blonde-like" chick and they just wanted to take advantage of her. Plain and simple.

I called back and they gave me a rehearsed apology. It's not worth arguing over some wiper blades, but heck, it just ticked me off.

Jiffy Lube is a nationwide criminal organization. Used to take the old jeep there, then I realized they were just fucking us over repeatedly (but I wasn't paying at the time). After they fucked up the steering lock on my car and somehow fucked up the pressure in my brakes of my car, and a thug looking manager came out to fix the problem before we left, and we got screwed for an obscene amount of money, I made sure that my car didn't go there any more. They suck, they scam you, and the dumbasses that work there don't even know what they're doing.

Other funny story: My old boss at my summer internship took his company vehicle to jiffy lube to get a quick oil change before he went on his trip. He got it done, drove it for a week and went about 700-900 miles on that one oil change, and noticed that something sounded funny with the car. After that week the oil light came on and people said it was making a shady ass noise when he drove by, so he took it to the toyota dealership to figure out what was wrong. 2 hours later he gets a call: "Found the problem... There's no oil in the damn engine." Thing drove a week w/o any oil in it, haha. So the dealership said there didn't appear to be any damage to the engine, changed the filter, filled it up with oil and, sure enough, he's not had any mechanical problems since. Nobody at that office, and in the company for that matter, is taking their car to jiffy lube for servicing again unless they absolutely have to.

So yeah, I just wanted to add a couple stories. Nobody should use Jiffy Lube, ever. I'd actually recommend doing the service yourself as much as you can for the basic stuff. Find a friend to work on it in a shop for the more complicated stuff.

you want the magic tests:

put a mark on your filters, and a piece of tape on the oil cap.

Take your car to jiffy lube and get the oil and filters replaced. at least one out of 5 times they will do neither.

it really is. im sorry you got fucked and it sucks to hear about bent shit. you just cant complain about the price of the blade though. at my shop we would chargse anywhere from 10.99 to 22.99 depending on how big the blade was. its like that so if you were to fail ncsi we would have them there. its just easier than going to walmart where the blade is like $5 and puting it on and driving back to get your car reinspected. i am now way connected to the j team at all. but those motherfuckers give the quick lube fast lube rapid lube ext a bad name. and i hate that its like that.
hope all your problems are fixed and i hate that someone has fucked another person in the automotive industery

yeah, but at that location you can just drive across the street to advance and get it and have them put it on if you don't know how (not that they necessarily do either )

ha. I had my truck inspected there back in may. I had just put new plugs/wires and it still had the old misfire codes in it, so I had the people at advance reset it. Go to Jiffy Lube and some of the ready codes aren't set so they tell me to come back. After driving to Wilmington and back, I go to have it re-inspected. Everything was fine this time and the lady was like "ok, that'll be 6.99". Apparently I only got charged for the sticker and not the inspection.

The moment the car is pulled in the bay the inspection starts, legally. If you fail, they charge you the full price of the inspection minus the sticker. When you return to pass, you get charged the sticker only, which used to be 6.25 and I think recently went up to like 6.50. They did exactly what they were supposed to do.

ha. That's the point. They didn't charge the inspection price the first time, I even asked them what did I owe before I left and they said nothing. Then when I went back, they just charged for the sticker. So they goofed.

The jiffy lube on western is, by far, the worst jiffy lube in existence.

But most of the others are pretty bad too. Wal-mart would even be better (although I wouldn't trust them either).

No way he drove 700-900 miles with no oil. The oil light would have been on before he pulled out of the parking lot and he wouldn't have made it very far. If anything it was probably just low as fuck and right at the borderline to where the oil light might be on or it might not be.

How long can a typical car run oil starved before the bearings, seals, and everything else is destoryed? I'm sure it can't be but a few miles, if that.

The local place around here takes like 5 minutes to do an inspection.

Jiffy Lube took like 25 for some reason the one time I went there.

A proper inspection takes more than 5 minutes...

It takes 5 minutes if you scan the registration, hook it up, pass everything and print it out.

Exactly. An yes, I did poke fun at her. But, as a good husband, I forgave her for the mistake. And life goes on.

P.S. My wife is currently a straight A student at NCSU. Transferred from Wake Tech with a 4.0. She's planning on eventually getting her MBA. Her grasp of technical know-how should be questioned, but labeling her as "not smart" would be the understatement of the week.

screw that they are $$$ as hell. i had an overheating problem one time and i took it there since i had AAA come and tow me and they told me my water pump was bad, the hoses needed replacing, my thermostat was bad, my belt was bad, and my belt tensioner was bad and they wanted around $1300 to fix it all. i doubt it was all of those things and they probably just didnt feel like looking for the leak so they tried to just charge me for everything. i told them good day, bought the parts for around $250 and did it myself on the weekend without any trouble.

^they probably told you all of that not only because they want to sell everything they can but because if they don't notice something and tell you about it you'd have leverage to come back and say "well you didn't tell me my belt was bad, now it blew on the road and I overheated and warped my heads and you have to pay for it all". There's a lot of liability in working on cars and its cheaper to scare customers away like you every now and then by selling the complete job than patch the problem.

^^ i'm sure everybody knows this but book smarts mean absolutely nothing when you step outside the classroom door. any monkey can memorize answers to questions. practical knowledge is key. This is why ASE certifications are good but not necessary or a sign of a good mechanic.

^^^ So what was the problem? If you're changing the water pump there is no reason not to go ahead and use a new belt/tensioner. Thermostats are dirt cheap and take 2 minutes to swap. Ditto for hoses.

GG for doing the work yourself and saving labor costs, but the parts list doesn't sound all that ridiculous assuming the problem really was the water pump.

its not the parts it is the price they wanted to charge me...i cant remember the breakdown but considering it took me about 5 minutes to put on the tensioner and the belt what they were looking at charging for the labor just seemed pretty pricey

^^^ that actually makes a lot of sense didnt really think about it that way

moral of the story: learn to work on your own car...it's a lot cheaper that way

^That's one of the many things people don't think about when they assume we're trying to rip people off. Want to know one of the reasons we have to charge so much? We have to hire crazy amounts of lawyers to handle ridiculous amounts of lawsuits, liability issues, etc. If people weren't so hell bent on suing these days prices would drop. Not by a lot, but they would drop. In the name of good business i'm not going to throw any numbers around but you'd be surprised how little net profit we run after payroll, advertising, and bills that coincide with running a shop. Situations like the one you were in are damned if you do, damned if you don't (selling the job).

um price of labor and parts have nothing todo with lawyers. it has to do with paying poeple to work on your shit and making money

bottom line get an estimate on something before you have it worked on. dont just have the car towed there and be like fix it. any shop in n.c. can slap $350 worth of shit on your car before they call you and tell you how much its gonna be. if you think they are fucking you call another shop if you think "they" are fucking you do it your self.

At my shop, mechanics only get 16-18% of parts and labor. So, that leaves a lot of the 85$ left.
