i got a speeding ticket last night for going 51 in a 35. I wasn't even intentionally speeding as I had literally just turned onto a street which I thought was 45 mph limit. As soon as I saw the sign for 35 mph I slowed down, but that was also right when I passed the cop.
That's exactly what I told the cop when he pulled me, didn't try to argue or anything. Now I'm just wondering what the right move is. I've never gotten pulled or anything before, so I don't really know the process. What are my options as far as minimizing the infraction and getting the ticket reduced? Is this a situation where I should get an attorney to help, or would it not make much difference than if i jut went to court myself?
I'm not trying to say I wasn't speeding or anything, I know I was. I just wasn't doing it intentionally, but that's obviously no excuse. I just know that it seems like most of the time people get shit like this dropped down to next to nothing, if not completely dropped, so I'm just curious what I should do.
