it must be a virus...i've been getting a lot of pop-ups that say i have security problems and need to download their software, or error messages like "warning! potential spyware operation! click yes to download spyware remover." they don't seem like legit error messages, but they're well disguised. so yesterday i got fed up and went to my control panel to see if there were any programs i could remove....only to find my control panel is not there! is there a virus that could do this? i'm gonna try some of the programs that have been suggested in previous threads, but do you guys think they can even solve something like this? or should i just format and reinstall everything?

and here's another thing that's fucking weird: i do a google search, click on one of the results, and i get directed to some random page with ads that is totally not what i clicked on. 9/21/2007 6:39:03 PM |

I have a dumbass friend who had a similar problem. The virus and malware disabled his Task Manager, internet, and prevented Adaware 2007 from running. So I booted into safe mode with networking, installed Adaware 1.06, and got rid of all that I could. After that I went back into a normal boot, repaired Adaware 2007, and it and Avast got the rest.
