so places like Intelius do the online background checks for $50.
but isnt all this info that they compile freely available?
how does this work? what exactly are they getting on you, and where do they get it from? 10/10/2007 1:25:53 AM |

^^ It's all public information. You're paying for them to do the legwork and probably some subscriptions to specialized databases.

50 bucks is a pretty good price for a full background check.
Intelius is an AWESOME service btw, for damn near all public records lookups.
Like ^ said, it's publicly available, not freely available. And to do it on your own will cost about the same amount of money, but will take you a hell of a lot longer. You'll have to fax or write every state and request copies of and records for criminal and civil appearances, then process all the paperwork for duplicates and mismatches. 10/10/2007 3:02:23 PM |

publicly available means it is freely available. anything that involves tax payers monies for the most part is free public information. true it might take you 3 months of digging like a mole to get what you want, but its free. 10/10/2007 4:11:14 PM |

i think he means publicly is free as in "free speech" not free as in "free beer"
its true, just the driver's license info for one state is like $8 - $12 and may take a couple weeks to get it via mail.
i dont see how Intelius could get it faster or cheaper though. this information is regulated by legislation from the state assembly.
i think these online places have a lot of hidden costs. you get a summary for $50, but they start charging the hell out of you if you want specifics.
....
on another note, i was looking up my NC criminal background and the shit's all coded. I know DUI and AOF, but What the hell does AWDWWITKISI mean?

Joe, where do you work?
have you ever had an issue applying for a job with that shit on your record? 10/10/2007 4:31:22 PM |
seedless All American 27142 Posts user info edit post |
obviously it not good in any case to have a criminal background, but something that is a violent felony is somewhat hard to overlook. really all jokes aside good luck.

goddamn.
the whole thing was a misunderstanding. it was all self-defense on my part.
my fucking lawyer sucked. he convinced me to take the plea because he didnt want to do any more work than he had to.
i knew i shouldn't have settled for a public defender.
...
and yeah, ive always wondered why so many interview go well, then they never call me back

oh, man. i feel bad now sorry to have had fun at your expense.
my stories might impress some people, but im not a violent person, and im not even a very good fighter. overall, ive had my ass kicked more than ive kicked ass, and i generally try to avoid violence.
to be honest, when i think about the year or two i spent on the streets (a long time ago), it still suprises me that i didnt get killed. The fact that I survived amidst some pretty rough ghettos in Baltimore, DC, and Cleveland has more to do with luck than anything else.
i think its safe to say i could blend with the homeless, and hang with gutter punks and street thugs because I wasnt generally considered a threat to them. I'd be more of the entertainer than a henchman. I could also come up with a clever scam, or go about "procuring" items of moderate value. but that was about it.

Because they order this information in bulk electronically from the states. Which means massive discounts and much better cross-checking. Most states will grant unlimited electronic access to most public information to companies like Intelius. It works much in the same way as the MLS. Accessible by industry, but not for free, and not to individuals.10/10/2007 5:15:26 PM |
