im a car noob. i have a 96 buick century, and my engine likes to rev up spontaneously at odd times..
like when i start it up, it sounds like it's going to cut off (which it actually does sometimes), but then revs up suddenly... and the engine erratically revs up when its on, like if im stopped at a light it starts to rev up... i let the car go by itself after the light turned green, and it went up to 40 mph by itself without me touching the gas pedal..
what could be the problem? x.x 10/20/2007 3:21:06 PM |

i got a 97 grand am that does the same thing. when i start it up in the morning i rev it up to 2000rpm and keep it there for about 30-40 sec. this usually takes care of it for me. 10/20/2007 5:39:44 PM |

Did you add the nitrogen to the intake and nitrous to the tires? 10/20/2007 10:41:45 PM |

definitely your muffler bearings
they are shot and blocking the exhaust causing the symptoms you describe 10/24/2007 10:40:59 AM |

you probably need one of these:
http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=NIE&MfrPartNumber=21813&PartType=506&PTSet=A
it takes about 10 min to swap
countdown to slownig saying to take it out and spray it with carb cleaner....
