ok so I was writing two different papers tonight

I finish one at about 11:30 and save it with its own title

then I start my 2nd one and finished it about half an hour later (it was quick cause I was mainly just transferring something from paper to type), so anyways I hit save, meant to hit save as

and I realize the title on the top says the title of the old paper, not sure if it even said that till I saved it. I don't know how this happened cause I definetly would not have deleted/cut all the type of my previous paper before starting this new one

finally I just saved my new paper under its proper title but now the original is gone, so anyways is there any way to recover the original type of this document, and if so how

thanks so much

Try to copy and past your current paper to a new document and then use undo to ssee if you can go all the way back to your old paper.

yea I think I am too, it was only two pages worth at least

sucks though cause I think this is a word fuck up cause they didnt even ask me if I wanted to overwrite when I saved

ok just as I write that it just automatically cut out half my post and I had to rewrite it, now I wonder if there is not some more general problem with my computer

Actually you might be able to recover it if you have not closed word yet. Just make sure you can view hidden files and look in the directory where you are saving the document. Word saves many versions as you hit "save" they will be hidden files with names like ~WRL33198.tmp

Just right click on one of the really old files and open as "edit" or whatever. But if you have closed word then these files are erased.

but if this would work I bet ^^^ would too.

If you were in the same window as the original document it would never ask you to overwrite b/c it thinks that you're still just editing the same one, how did you 'start' the second one? New file, new window, what?

he said he started a new paper in the same window as his old one. -- got done typing a totally new paper, clicked "save" and it totally overwrote the previously-saved version.

so at this point, all you can tell him is: "Dont Do Stupid Shit Like That No More, Mmmkay?"

but of course advice like that probably won't be seen as particularly helpful, and he probably won't want to hear it.
