It's wierd to me that this year the Colts are playing ball control, run first, clock management football, while the Patriots are playing throw first, all out, score as many points as we possibly can and hope they don't catch up football. 10/23/2007 12:18:21 AM |

They were talking about this on the radio show on the way in to work this morning and I thought it was interesting. Keep in mind these two guys are noted Manning haters... and Brady is a hometown hero around here.
But, how exactly do Manning's targets get so wide open on nearly every big play? There wasn't a defender within 10 yards of Dallas Clark last night on his TD. It was absurd. It's like the defense just fell asleep. It seems like Manning throws to wide open targets 15 times a game at times. Now is this because they are worried about Manning's great deep balls? Does he make changes at the line that allows his guys to get so wide open? Or is he just in a wonderful system?
It's probably a bit of all of that but it seems to me that Brady needs to be A LOT more precise to get his big numbers than Manning does.... 10/23/2007 12:02:00 PM |

I'm pretty sure his pump fake had a lot to do with Dallas being so wide open on that play.

The TD passes to Moss were pretty much a toss up and Moss making incredible catches. Did you not see Peyton's pass to Wayne in between three Jag defenders at the end of the third quarter, it was wicked nasty.10/23/2007 2:01:11 PM |

You could argue between those 2 until you're blue in the face. To me, they are 1A/1B and no one else in the league today even comes close. I think Manning is more physically gifted but Brady is cooler under pressure. The only reason they are talked about so much is because they are the only 2 QBs in the league even worth talking about, so it's inevitable people are going to start a comparison. If Romo, Palmer, Eli, Rivers, or Big Ben could develop some consistency, people might start to give a shit about them too.

Their receiving corps are also 1A/1B
It would be nice to see what Rivers could do with Moss/Stallworth/Welker or Harrison/Wayne.
I would argue that Manning is not more physically gifted but rather more mentally prepared than any other QB in the league. His accuracy is pretty much unparalleled as well. Brady is a better leader and is better in the clutch. 10/23/2007 2:19:44 PM |

Actually, Manning pretty much suits the ideal QB physicality perfectly.
He's tall, reasonably elusive (enough to evade pressure), and has a huge arm.10/23/2007 2:55:26 PM |

Isolated instances certainly don't make a trend. It was just an observation I had that other people have talked about as well... I don't see enough of either to make a definitive judgment.10/23/2007 2:57:19 PM |

I think both of them will wind up being two of the all-time greats.
That said, right now Brady's having a much better season, although P.Manning is doing damn well himself. 10/23/2007 3:01:27 PM |

have you ever stepped foot on a football field?
the man obviously has an excellent mind for the game since he calls and changes many plays from scrimmage by judging the defense (not an easy task). the fact that most of his changes WORK proves he has a great mind for the game. You don't need to be in the film room to observe this. nice try though.

The people who had always downplayed Manning's stats and said Brady was the best are now trying to use stats to prove Brady is the best despite Manning having the most recent championship.
