Heekin is in the same law office as Don Strickland, the former Wayne County assistant district attorney who prosecuted Dail for rape."

On top of that, who the fuck came up with the idea that living in prison is only worth $20k/year? Even assuming that he shouldn't get paid for SLEEPING in prison, you are saying the rest of the time in his life spent incarcerated was worth $3.42/hour. I say it should be based off of minimum wage, so dude deserves closer to $700,000.

Also, she should get exactly half of what she had to spend to raise the kid. I hope she saved receipts.

roughly speaking, it's a formula based on what each of you make. They add up both of your incomes and plug that amount into a chart that tells them how much total child support (split between the two of you) is needed at your combined income level. Next, they add in total daycare/healthcare/etc costs. Then they split that total amount proportional to how much you each make.

What happens in the real world (at least in my case and many others i've heard of) is that the mother usually gets primary care (you might share custody equally, which means you--on paper--enjoy an equal say in major decisions), so the father ends up paying her child support. The mother ends up being liable for her fair share on paper, but that's pretty much it. The amount the charts assign is so high that just the father's portion is more than sufficient for all of the child's expenses, so in reality, the mother doesn't pay for anything, and ends up able to pocket a couple hundred bucks per month for herself.

On top of all that, she gets all of the tax breaks.


Oh, and there's a good chance you'll end up paying her legal expenses for her, too (thankfully I dodged this one, pretty much by being a complete obstinate dickhead who refused to even negotiate the point and threatened to walk away from the table and drag things on to the maximum, most difficult, expensive extent possible every time it was even suggested.) They'll use it for leverage, too (agree to every ridiculous demand we make, or we'll sue for legal expenses--and the more you fight about it, the higher those expenses will be).


The fact that I made her lawyer look like a crooked imbecile (and her to look completely unreasonable) in front of the judge at the first hearing helped. He sided with me on EVERY SINGLE issue (not that I really got any great deal...I just got a less unfair deal than it usually is). That made them a lot more eager to deal at the final hearing, b/c I just refused to negotiate anything of any consequence that they were being really ridiculous on--which would just make things more and more expensive and difficult...and after round #1, they decided not to test silly shit on that judge for a second time, especially when I wasn't fighting for anything more than a deal fair to all concerned. They also knew that they weren't likely to get any legal expenses awarded, since it was pretty clear at that point that they were the ones fucking around and being unreasonable.
