I am heading to Kentucky with a couple brohas for a few days for some relaxation. We were thinking about hitting up some of the following:

Kentucky Bourbon Trail/Bardstown
Mammoth Caves
Cumberland Gap State Park

If you have been to any of these places, let me know what you enjoyed or didn't enjoy. I'm also looking for other suggestions in the area.

I've been to Mammoth Cave a few times. I enjoyed it; if you have the time, they have tours that last over 4 hours (or over 6 hours for a wild cave tour, but I haven't done that). There's an underground cafeteria you stop at.

Another place I like is Cumberland Falls. It's a big waterfall; I think it's sometimes called the Niagara of the south. It has a reputation for being one of only two spots in the world where you can see a moonbow. If you have any interest in that, try and visit on a clear night with a full moon. If you stand in the right spot, you can see a faint rainbow in the falls from the light of the moon.

If you have any interest in Colonel Sanders (and who doesn't?), Corbin is near Cumberland Falls. That's where the Colonel got his start with a restaurant and hotel.

A couple more places I'm familiar with but have never visited:

The Pikeville area (near WV) is Hatfields and McCoys country. If you search around, you might be able to find some historic sites based on that.

Another place I'd really like to go is the Red River Gorge. I hear it's a good place to hike; lots of natural rock bridges and arches.

I was debating doing a cave tour or renting a canoe/kayak out on the river. I'm guessing the views from inside the cave are alot nicer so I'm leaning that way. The Wild Cave one sounds pretty fun, where you get to strap the gear on. It may be too pricey for some of my friends though.

One thing I forgot to mention. From what I've seen, Mammoth Cave isn't an especially decorated cave. Some parts (like the Frozen Niagara area) are, but in a lot of areas I don't really remember seeing much in the way of typical stalactite/stalagmite formations. It's a huge cave system, though, and still worth seeing.
