I've heard its as bad as they say it is, maybe worse.
I've got a job offer in the area, I'm not to keen on it to begin with but just curious about the state in general. 10/24/2007 2:49:27 PM

Some of the most expensive and nicest zip codes in the country are in Northern NJ... don't believe all the bad hype. I mean, you don't want to be moving to Newark or something but there are some great areas in NJ... just don't move anywhere close to Staten Island/Newark.
ah, Parsippany, gotcha. Yeah, I think that is right off of I-80 pretty far west of the city. Nice area from what I remember... I stayed in Madison for awhile a few years ago to see a friend... I liked that area.

yeah from looking at the map I guess you could consider the area a subburb of newark which doesn't sound appealing
its not really that great of a job but I feel I should at least give it a fair shake since its the most solid of an offer I've gotten yet 10/24/2007 3:00:39 PM

i'm from north jersey, bergen county... so what i know of it is pretty awesome. but yes, there are some super shitty areas of jersey, it just depends on where you are thinking about working and wanting to live. 10/24/2007 3:04:09 PM

Actually I would consider the Parsippany area an upper class suburb of New York City... It's right on the verge of being too long a travel time to work in the City really...

I dunno...I'm sure that there are pretty parts somewhere, but it looks ghetto and industrial...
And with the gas prices these days, why the fuck do they have people pump your gas for you and expect a tip?

State law? But yeah, that is the shittiest part about the state. I just like to pump my own gas and get out of there.
I love it when people try and say they know what an entire state is like when they drive up I-95 to the city... of course the area around I-95 sucks and is industrialized. It is the most used north-south thoroughfare in the country and is located right on one of the largest three harbors in the world...

I never had a single person expect a tip for pumping my gas while living there.

also take into account the cost of living.
on a $35000 salary,
Salary in Raleigh NC: $35,000 Comparable salary in Newark-Elizabeth NJ: $47,969.69

I grew up in New Jersey and I have NEVER tipped a gas attendant, and they have never asked for/expected a tip. They get paid like $10+/hr, there's no reason to tip them. Put that little factoid right back in your sphincter where you pulled it from.

The bright red areas are the stereotypical "New Jersey" areas. Things elsewhere are much nicer.

Shouldn't you already know how it is if you got a job offer in the area? Did they offer you the job without seeing you, or you even giving the place a visit? 10/24/2007 4:14:09 PM
