hell i dont know, all i know is that it goes through brake fluid pretty quick.

i havnt stuck my head under there but for only a few seconds and it looked like it was coming from the valve.

if its cheap enough, i might swap the whole master cyl. assembly out.

i need to find a time to look it all over. i read that those valves go out a lot.

i was filling it up the other night, and i dont know if it was because it was dark, or a shadow, or what but it looked so damn gunky inside that brake fluid reservoir...

how do those master cylinders hold up? the thing has 90K miles, which is very low, it runs like a champ.

only other problem is that there is no heat. gotta spend a good day scoping this thing out.

any other common probs with this thing? its my uncles side truck, but i use it a lot so i wanna get things goin for him.

Is the valve mounted on the mc or on the fenderwell?

Is the heater core hooked up? Those things are notrious for going out on the S10's, and most people just bypass them.

[Edited on October 29, 2007 at 7:44 AM. Reason : Check all your heater control linkages too.]

hmm, ive payed attention once to where the valve was.. i want to say its under the MC.
i was trying to find pictured on the internet and i noticed some that are mounted in other places. so thats why im not 100% sure.

but if i can remember correctly, its under the MC.

so i see that they are called dump valves also.

nice name

you mean this fucker? they alway start seeping around the switch, only place that has that is the dealer now, carquest doesnt carry them anymore, make sure you have the vin number, exact build date, engine size, and a DNA sample before you order the part through chevy

i actually think its coming from the right side brake line. the line on the bottom. looks a bit rusted out.

might have to change that instead.

it was a question.

reason i asked is cause if you bleed the brakes with that vavle you have to have it open when bleeding the brakes. didnt know if he did this and it got stuck open. yes i know they go bad

You are one dumb fuck, the valve doesnt "open" it has a piston that moves between the front and rear sides if the pressure is unbalanced, due to a leak, etc, it will move to the low pressure side and somewhat shut it off, and also trips the switch in the center that cuts on the warning light, it also has specific sized orifices for the vehicle because obviously the front brakes require more volume than the rear and they are not always interchangable even though they all look the same, and it looks like a typical failure to me, it just needs to be replaced, but that bottom line is so dman corroded it will probably break off if it comes out of there at all.

Even if the brakes were bled improperly and the piston wasn't centered, it would cause it to leak externally you stupid fuck.

so i am def replacing the line.. maybe even both brake lines.

should i go through with the valve?

this might be something where money will play a role.
its not a daily driver. i would be happy with just replacing the line if thats all i think it needs

with vacuum bleeder, or alternating positions if doing it the ghetto way, starting with the farthest from the mc, then the two closest, so in this case, RR and RF until no air, then LR and LF

thats a good god damn question, i bet you bought it from the same guy that sold you the blinker fluid and muffler bearings

Who let this slowback dude back on here? I thought he was banned or something. It appears he might have gotten dumber if that's possible?

I'm really surprised these parts aren't available at parts places, are you sure? It's only like the most common compact truck ever. Plus it's domestic.

you can do a line yourself, its really easy.

check back with the dealer to see what other applications use the same part then hit a junkyard and find you one.

or just bypass it and learn to drive with the rear wheels locked everytime you hit the brakes

^^tr00.

the guy at apex carquest said i can do it myself. the only thing rusted is the the threaded bolt that goes into the valve. if i can replace that. its good to go.

he said something about a 2 way tube flaring devise.

and i can do it on the car, as long as there is enough hose.

im assuming i am gonna cut the hose, replace screw, and flare it.

sounds pretty simple. is it?
