So, my fucking laptop died and I'm pretty sure its the female side of the AC adapter. I had heard that it a soldering and part thing, and I'm not too comfortable working on laptops, so I thought I would need to take it to someone. Obviously, I dont want to take it to some shitty place like Best Buy or Circuit City to be overcharged, but are there any independent places that will look at it and tell me how much they would charge to fix that? Do you guys have any recommendations? Thanks for that.
Also, I was hoping someone here could tell me... would I run into any major problems taking my hard drive and putting it into another laptop (preferably of the same brand) and booting it up just enough to get the data off through a USB port or something, or will the driver issues and any other issues be so great that it just wouldn't boot/work? If this is the case, does anyone actually have a laptop size HD enclosure that I could borrow for an hour or two to transfer some data over? I'll give you 3 Stella's for the trouble! Thanks. 10/30/2007 12:02:20 AM |

I don't do soldering on laptop mobos (or any for that matter), but if you can find a mobo replacement on ebay/otherwise, I can certainly replace it.
Per the second part, you won't run into any serious problems just swapping HDDs into a new laptop ... but you're better off (read as: less potential for driver conflicts and blue screens) with the latter option of using an enclosure and pulling off the needed data to another computer then transferring it back, etc.
Oh, and that is an acceptable form of payment for borrowing the enclosure as far as I'm concerned ... I'm quite the beer knurd . Send me a PM if you'll be in the Raleigh area tomorrow late afternoon or early evening, you can have it for a day or two as you need it. 10/30/2007 12:30:03 AM |
