Namely, I want to copy the Navy-Notre Dame game from the HD-DVR to my computer. I've gotten the box onto my network by enabling the ethernet port...it shows up on my router when I go look at connected devices. The model is HR20-100s (99% positive on the 100s part).
I have searched high and low, but it seems most topics are about streaming from your computer to your DVR and not the other way around. When I look at my network places, nothing shows up.
Can this be done (without something like a video capture device)? 11/7/2007 12:16:34 PM |

can you find out the IP address of the HDDVR box by looking in your router connected devices setup, and then either \\123.123.123.123 to the IP address or FTP or Telnet in and list the files? 11/7/2007 12:27:38 PM |

I opened up firefox and tried typing the ip address shown in my router but it couldn't open anything (not found)...I can try FTP or telnet tonight (was working on it late last night and crapped out after not finding a lot of helpful stuff on forums) 11/7/2007 12:35:23 PM |

I use Windows Media Center and a PC card for DVR...I'm able to burn DVR programs onto DVDs...or I can obviously watch them on my computer since they're originally stored on my computer...however I can watch them in Windows Media Player even though they're *.dat files
This doesn't help you...however I wonder if theres any way to send them from your DVR to your PC (instead of grabbing them to your PC from your DVR) if that makes any sense...in other words is there any type of file system or directory tree you can access on the DVR itself that might allow for transferring of files? Cause if the HDD is indeed encrypted, it doesn't sound like you'll have much luck doing it from the PC-side 11/7/2007 4:08:44 PM |

The HR20 stores the "raw" data stream to the harddrive, so the data on it is encrypted. If you have a capture card, you could play it into the computer with that. You might can find more info on http://www.dbstalk.com. 11/7/2007 10:26:13 PM |

yeah - i forgot i had a capture card...so i hooked it up and now can't figure out how to configure beyond tv to just take the signal from my box and record whatever show the box is sending to the computer...guess i have more work to do to figure this out...it has to be capable of recording an existing stream just coming over a cable 11/7/2007 11:47:33 PM |

i've got an HR21. there's pretty much no way to do this.
i even tried hooking up an external HD to the esata port on the back. it formats the filesystem into something weird and even when you get to the filesystem, the files are all encrypted. 11/8/2007 1:21:54 AM |

Does the HR20 have a firewire port? That would be pretty much the only way you might be able to get it off in HD using CapDVHS. If you dont care about the HD aspect, then the capture card method will work fine. You may have to do something funky to get it to output the correct video to your svideo cable (with the TWC box, I have to shift it to "SD mode" in order to dump anything off), so check the AVSforum master thread on the HR20: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=704067.
Or, if you want to not deal with any of that hassle: http://forums.tenyardtorrents.com/viewtopic.php?id=6749 11/8/2007 2:09:06 PM |

digging this up from the dead. I've taken the component out (drm free) from my dvr and run it to my slingbox, and then tried to capture the stream from the slingbox on my pc with windows media encoder as well as expression encoder 4. both leave me with a great picture but choppy sound. this is the only method I know of without buying expensive pc hardware. anyone know why my sound might be choppy? capturing at 720p with a quad core and 4gb of ram 8/14/2011 7:43:33 AM |

^^no. there is no stutter in the stream, just when trying to record it. i can watch the slingbox stream on even my phone and the sound is perfect. 8/15/2011 1:09:31 AM |
