Just finished wiring everything up in my new system today and found that my subs are BARELY hitting. I've checked and double checked my wiring, and played with every set up I can find in the HU, and played with the gain on the amp. The level changes when I change the gain, but no where near enough. The subs are hitting but not loud enough to even hear them in the front seats, let alone the level they should be at. Any suggestions?

Heres my setup:

HU: Apline CDA-9856

Subs: JL 10w3v2 D4 (DVC)

Amp: Rockford Punch 550.2

Each sub is wired in parallel, creating 2 ohms per sub. Sub 1 going to the first channel and Sub 2 going to the second. Should I have wired them together in series and bridged the amp?

Any suggestions as to why they are barely hitting?

I'm lazy, what are the RMS values for the subs and amp?

impedance of subs, amp?

Part of my question was about the wiring. I just wante dto ask first before I took them out and rewired.

Sub RMS: 300 - Imp: 4 Ohms
Amp RMS: 550 - Imp: Can handle down to 2 Ohms

when i had a similar problem i didnt have a good ground. The ground wire was attached to a bolt, but both were painted and therefore it didnt have enough connectivity to ground very well. So all it did was bump loud enough for maybe the backseat to hear. check your ground wire and make sure it's connected to a good location

I cleared away paint before bolting down the ground, I'll double check it though.

Amp was brand new in box

only time I ever had this problem was when I wired the sub up wrong

It was so long ago I forgot exactly what was wrong, but yeah, recheck to make sure everything is wired up properly from the amp to the sub(s)

It is possible that you wired each sub to 8 ohms instead of 2.

check the voltage while its on at the terminals on the amp and make sure it doesnt drop off to rule out a bad power connection, then take the speaker wires off and check the resistance, and did you hook the amp to the sub pre outs on the reciever and not the front or rear channel ones? also check you high and low pass fileter settings on the amp and head unit

Was gonna say it sounds like a crossover issue. If you have a random full range speaker laying around, hook this up to the sub.

When putting your ear up to it as it is now, can you hear the vocals or anything like that in it?

I have the crossover on LPF and pre-amps are hooked up correctly. I checked the voltage and impedence today. Voltage was good, but impedence was .... off. I'm going to check the wiring and rewire them tonight. Thanks for all the help
