Any suggestions on what's the best to use until I get my rack of real equipment to use? Semsim seemed to work pretty good as far as handling abbreviated commands stuff like the real one unlike a few others I've tried. What would you guys suggest?

Ah, guy at work has a copy of "Cisco CCNA Network Simulator" How does it compare to dynamips?

If its the new one, its actually pretty good. ALOT easier to use than dynamips, and I believe it has full functionaliity.

My Dad teaches CCNA classes, and he has raved about the new tools that they are bringing to the cisco networking academies. Im not sure if all of them are out yet (he was a technical reviewer for the curriculum) but definitely give it a try if it is a new tool they put out.

So far it works very well, from what I know anyways. I've skimmed through about half the labs and it has helped quite a bit, IMO. Any suggestions on what equipment to get if I were to build a rack to actually use as practice? Company will pay for it and it sure as hell isn't gonna hurt them $$ wise...

Oh, how's Jeff doing rob?

If I were to get a practice lab, it would depend on what I was trying to learn/study. If you are thinking about going as far as CCIE, then I would get 4 2800 routers, and 2 3560 switches. Also, get serial ports for all the 2800s, and buy some old router online, such as a 3640(with lots of serial ports) to use as a frame-relay switch.

That will give you a pretty good lab, to be honest. If they still want to spend a little money, have them get 4 extra 2800s. That would make a CCIE lab comparable to the real one.

Jeff is doing pretty well ... Fool is all married and working for Michelin down in SC. We had our Camera stolen, BTW... Got any more "good deals"

Thats a good start for learning some basic stuff... Newer routers would allow you to run with newer features, more capabilities and all that jazz. I would still suggest the 3650 switches over the 2900 series, as they are more up to date and have more routing features on them.

But, if you are just starting, thatll do for now.
