thanks for the suggestion...i guess i should clarify more about my situation and what im looking for because i know next to nothing about this topic.
i basically want a standard card that can take a cable from the wall in order to get normal tv output. HD would be nice, also any vid inputs that might later support another type of vid imput (360 or something? im not sure)
thanks again 11/13/2007 11:25:05 PM |

if HD dual tuners is not the primary requirement than most PCI based cards would work just as well, typically the PCIe x1 cards are just because of the extra bandwidth needed to record dual HD channels 11/13/2007 11:36:41 PM |

I have the HVR 1800 also. I use it with QAM and works fine. Only get a couple decent channels in HD and bunch of music channels, but that's the luck of the draw i suppose. I concur that channel changes are slow, but I don't know if that goes with the territory or it could be designed better.
It takes NTSC also; it's a dual tuner device. Mine has an FM radio tuner too, so make that three tuners. Also, has an Svideo input.
I haven't used any other brands, but this is my second Hauppauge and I'm pleased. 11/14/2007 12:49:07 PM |

^^^I have some questions about that card. I've been thinking about upgrading simply because analog NTSC looks like crap on a computer, and i want the clear qam channels. How does the qam work? You just hook up cable to it and you get 1-125 digital channels? You said you got "only a couple decent HD channels". Are you getting these HD channels over the air, or are they coming through the digital cable? What i'm asking is can you receive HD digital channels through "clear qam" through the cable? Or can you only get HD over the air? 11/15/2007 2:57:42 AM |

aye im wondering these questions as well... along with more additional basics. Now that im in the market for such a card i need to know the lingo.
aside from the obv stuff i can google to save you all time in explinations, what are features i should pay attention to? what would be nec / overkill for my setup?
I just want a card that can take the cable jack from my wall in my appartment and plug it into my computer to watch tv (im willing to spend more for a better picture). 11/15/2007 8:21:15 AM |
