There are a few other places doing B1G1F deals (Fry's / Deep Discount) however the movies seem to run hand in hand with Amazon, however Amazon has lower prices and free Super Saver Shipping currently.

As this post is meant to help those with Blu-Ray players save some money on increasing their collection.

I had originally posted this in the debate thread... reposting here so it doesn't get lost.

How to get 3 Blu-ray movies for the price of 1:

#1: Look at this list (also below), and pick 2.
#2: Buy those two at Amazon through this promotion. You will be charged for one of them.
#3: When they arrive, fill out this form to recieve your third movie.

The only catch is... for your third movie, you pick a first, second, and third choice from the list of twelve (aside from the two you've already purchased), so it's not guaranteed. But hey, it's not often that you get to stack coupons, and it's THREE FOR ONE.

  • Casino Royale (Blu-ray)
  • Ghost Rider (Blu-ray)
  • The Fifth Element (Blu-ray)
  • Underworld: Evolution (Blu-ray)
  • Telladega Nights (Blu-ray)
  • Open Season (Blu-ray)
  • Black Hawk Down (Blu-ray)
  • The Persuit of Happyness (Blu-ray)
  • The Patriot (Blu-ray)
  • Memoirs of a Geisha (Blu-ray)
  • A Few Good Men (Blu-ray)
  • Big Fish (Blu-ray)

Question. Are star wars out on Blu ray or something? Cause i've seen it in wmv-hd in 1080p all 6 movies but never knew they'd been released on blu ray or hd dvd.

Also what side of the fence is new line cinema, who they owned by? I really want to see Lord of the Rings on a hi def format.

"Lucasfilm comments on speculation about HD versions of Star Wars on disc.

Recent listings on Amazon has sparked debates on various online communities including our own message board.

PC World contacted LucasFilm to ask them about their HD plans.

John Singh, spokesperson for Lucasfilm Ltd. said, "Lucasfilm Ltd. has no plans to release any of the Star Wars movies on Blu-ray or HD DVD. Listings on Amazon.com or any other Web site are purely speculative and erroneous.""

The 1080p versions available come from a rip from SkyHD, which is like HBO in the UK. 1080i versions were shown in the US on HBOHD and CinamaxHD.

Currently no plans for Star Wars on either format... when that happens, it will be HUGE. I wouldn't expect it for another 3-4 years though. It wasn't until 2004 that we got it on DVD, IIRC.

But..but... you said in the other thread that HD-DVD was capable of everything Blu-Ray was....??

And to whoever asked, the hi def versions of SW floating around are from when (HBO?) showed them in HD.

Yeah, thats a really good player too. It's one of the few that will internally decode the HD audio formats as well as bitstream them. Most of them just bitstream them and you need a receiver that can handle the decoding.

Has anyone done this yet or read online any reports by someone who has?

I was about to pull the trigger on this but saw a few things that made me hesitate. Since buy.com doesn't provide the 2 free movies, you have to do the "mail-in" option for that deal. However, both mail-in deals require the original UPC from the box, so how would you get both deals? Also, the fine print of the 5 free movies deal says that the receipt must be "emenate from same state as consumer address." Will there be any issues with buying it online and not haveing a state of origin, or the shipping address be from NC?

Basically I don't want to buy this player thinking that I'm getting 8 free movies (including the planet earth dvd) only to get shafted 8-10 weeks later because of the fine print.

The offers were made available less than 2 months ago judging by the dates, and it says the delivery times are between 8 and 12 weeks on the movies, so people wouldn't have received anything yet.

Hmm, I just assumed they want the code, and not the physical printed UPC cut from the box. Seeing as there are no blanks labeled 'UPC code' on the forms, you would seem to raise an important point. I guess I'll have to decide between the two offerings.

I have to assume in this day and age that they wouldn't exclude online purchases. But that might be something worth clearing up.

picked up Swordfish and Blood Diamond. I'm loving these BOGO sales, combined with my 10% off from Amazon (which they apply BEFORE giving you the 2nd disc for free), and my extra 5% affiliate discount on top.

I just got both of those movies for like $12. Ridiculous.

Really wish they had specials on the Kubrick releases that just came out ~1 month ago. I hear 2001 looks spectacular. And Eyes Wide Shut is one of the best movies evar.

I got to use my BD-P1400 today. Only watched a couple blu-rays so far, and watched a little of LOTR on dvd.

Its a little more sluggish than your typical dvd player. It inexplicably takes 15-20 seconds to open the tray when its just idle. I'm not really sure what its computing in that span that it needs to take that long, but its tolerable anyway.

The player breaths new life into dvds. I believe it upconverts to 1080p, so it pulls every detail out. Blu-ray looks flawless.

I haven't taken advantage of those free offers from Samsung and BDA, but I did establish that you can use a photocopy of the UPC for the Samsung offer allowing you to redeem both offers, though the offer from the BDA is pretty much void if you bought the player online.

^dunno if this is why he says its void, but as I noted earlier, the fine print states that the receipt must "emanate from same state as consumer address." I'm sure if they really wanted to they could pull a "gotcha on that technicality, and while I haven't read anything specific to buying a player online, there were several people on forums complaining about not getting the movies they asked for, not getting them in the specified time or not getting 5 movies. From what I've read it sounds almost like they are purposefully slack in honoring these deals to catch the people who are too lazy or apathetic to follow up.

Yeah. Which to me means you must live in the same state as the place you bought it from. So everyone who doesn't live in the same state as Buy.com's shipping location (CA) would seem to be excluded from the offer.

^thats an awesome deal! but what I found funny is that they tell you to pick 5 free movies out of the selection below. So i start scrolling through and I'm like check check check etc etc...and when I get to the bottom I realize there are only 6 to chose from.

what they should have said was "pick 1 movie that you don't like"

I'm kinda curious as to how awesome that one shot in The Patriot will be, where the cannonball bounces and heads straight into the camera. The 5 disc Blade Runner set is OOS on Amazon, but it's only 27.95 and you can preorder it. pretty good deal for 5 discs, IMO.

If they release Minority Report, my P.K.D. Blu-Ray collection will be complete (I refuse to acknowledge Paycheck).
