I couldn't find the answers to these questions on the TWC website...
I want to upgrade my standard cable to digital cable...mainly so I can get more channels and ESPNU. Do I need a box for every TV? What if I just want digital cable for the living room TV but not the bedroom? Will the bedroom still receive standard cable?
Also, can I use a VCR with digital cable? I didn't know how the box would interfere with that. Thanks in advance. 11/17/2007 9:47:57 PM |

yeah, for every tv that you want digital cable, you're gonna need a box. at least thats what i have experience with 2 different houses setup and numerous friends setups.
direct TV has a deal where you can get up to 4 boxes installed or something like that, for free. 11/17/2007 10:02:47 PM |

is there a monthly fee for the box? or just a one-time fee? 11/17/2007 10:08:46 PM |

You would get standard cable (2-78 I think) on every TV. Yes there is a monthly fee.
If you hook a VCR up to it, you just have to remember to tell the cable box what you are going to record if you arent there so it will change the channel for you, and remember that it will record whatever you see (ie, if you decide to check the guide while you are watching something, it will record the guide). If you mark something to record on the cable box, it wont let you view the guide or change the channel though. 11/17/2007 10:22:43 PM |

yes, there are two different tuners, they can do whatever you tell them to and if you try to do three it will just ask which one you want to abort.
edit: also the boxes that twc has now are absolute shit. everyone i know that has the box i have has gone through several and still has problems with it not recording and stuff so you have to reset it, meanwhile missing things you wanted to record

I assume you have a two input PIP if you are able to record a show with the VCR and watch another? If so, you can do the same with this...youll just be limited to 2-78 through your TVs second tuner while the VCR is recording from the cable box.
Id get the DVR though if I was you....MUCH easier than dealing with tapes, and looks pretty much like original quality.
