I'm looking for a bed for my kid and something plastic/rounded edges comes to mind.

I see these wooden beds with sharp corners, but I'm not down with that.

I want something a bit more creative.

What exactly are you looking for when you say creative?

My son and daughter each have Little Tikes beds, and I like them. Heavy durable plastic, no hard edges that are seen (there are pieces of wood underneath the mattresses), and they have held up pretty nicely.

Ok, I understand wanting to buy something neat and all for your toddler that is wanting to sleep in a bed rather than their crib. But why not buy something he/she can use when they get older. My wife and I have a 10month old and when he is ready to have a bed, I am not buying one of those plastic stupid beds. We are going to buy a bed he can use until he leaves our house. We will just put of the rails until we are comfortable that he will not roll off the bed.

If you are that concerned about sharp corners, I hate to see what your house looks like. We have the electical outlets plugged up but other than that not much child proofing. Our sons crawls everywhere, crawls off the couch, pushes his car all over the place.

I went with toddler beds for my kids because of space, not because I was thinking simply along the lines of cute.

Also, depending on the child, some kids don't do well on a "big" bed. The majority of toddler beds have higher sides that may help children adjust to not being as confined as in a crib.

Some of the parents that I work for just skipped the toddler bed and went for a twin bed that they could continue using. The just use a safety railing to keep their kids from rolling out of the bed. I have a few kids with toddler beds, but not nearly as many who use a real bed. I prefer the adult sized beds because I feel like I can safely sit in the bed with them to read them a story, but with most toddler beds that's kinda iffy.

finding them is difficult.... it took us a long time to find one for my little sister that was more usable than the really bulky ones. It isn't overly "creative" persay, but it doesn't have any sharp corners. It's just a simple white plastic.
I actually talked with my mom about selling it yesterday, so if you're interested I can take some pictures. I think she was asking something like $40obo for bed with mattress.

what about those cribs that turn into toddler beds and then into real adult beds? seems like a better option that buying something ugly and plastic that will only last time a couple of years, or until he's too big/tired of whatever the theme is.

I would get one that uses a twin mattress simply because you can keep the twin mattress and use it later. Might last a little longer too.

But if you already have a crib mattress, it'll be cheaper right now if you just get one that uses it.

And the car beds are pretty cool. One of the boys I watch has one.

We got a toddler bed from walmart. We chose a toddler bed specifically because he was used to a crib and could've fallen off, as he of course wasn't used to the height difference and not having side guards all around. Toddler beds are closer to the ground, so if they do fall out of bed, they'll fall a shorter distance hopefully onto a cushion or pillow placed there.

We skipped the toddler bed, and the twin bed. At about 14 months old my son went from crib to Full size bed! At that point he had a bed bigger than any bed I've ever had I slept on a twin until I got married. And since I have to share the queen size bed, I don't consider it as big as a Full if you get to sleep on it by yourself.

thing is that i have a full and twin bed at my disposal.

i would prefer a twin bed for him, but i want the bed to be low enough that he can get in and out without danger.

i thought about that too, that's why i refused to drop $300 on the twin sized cars bed. i'd rather spend $100 now on a toddler bed and more later on a real bed.

I purchased the plastic and metal cars themed bed b/c there really weren't many other options.

I think the convertible furniture is nice, the daybed aspect of it is silly.

This may be too white trashy for you, but we just put the twin bed/box springs on the floor, in a corner, with a $35 bed rail on the outside edge. He's getting a real bed soon now that he doesn't tend to roll out anymore.
