How the fuck do you do it and hide everything "well"...?
Anyone done it before? If so help me out or I will pay someone a few bucks +free beer+ free food to come and help do it- 11/19/2007 1:48:27 PM |

attach the mount to the studs in the wall and then bust a hole near the connectors behind the tv
run everything down to your components and make another hole to connect the cables 11/19/2007 1:50:54 PM |

I get that part pretty well- of course I know there is a more gracefull way than "busting a hole"- Ie: running through the wall underneath floor and back up behindfloorboards/carpet-
Also- how the fuck do you plug it in? have to hardwire it into the outlet from inside the wall? certainly dont wanna pull it out and plug in-\
that would be gay- 11/19/2007 1:54:27 PM |

just did one at my GFs house.
well, you gotta find 2 studs. and secure the mount to it.
goto lowes and get a nice stud finder, like $50 or so (because you are gonna return it). and find the studs perfectly.
mount the wall mount, and then attach the TV to it. the wall mount should come with everything.
i made the mistake of mounting the TV before i hid the wires.
but get a nice 2" or so hole cutter, like the ones you use to cut yourself the hole to install a door handle. then cut another hole near the outlet.
you have to plan it out a little bit also, like when you bring the wires out, are they gonna go back up to the recievers? or are the recievers gonna be near the outlet, so everything is hidden.
when i get home ill take a pic.
but if you want to hide the holes, then get a 2" plastic things that those computer desks use. 11/19/2007 1:55:04 PM |

did u just plug the power cable in like normal or did you wire it in behind the wall? 11/19/2007 1:57:16 PM |

the hardest part will be trying to recover the wires from behind the wall. the insulation is all up in the way.
i used a coat hanger and attached the wires to one end, and fed the coathanger from one hole to the other.
i wired the powercord behind the wall.
my GF painted the walls blue, and didnt want a single wire shown.
haha

if you use a non exterior wall it probably won't have insulation in it. if it is an exterior wall i've seen people cut large panels out of the wall, and fabricate a pvc snorkel behind the panel then replace it, patch it and repaint then mount the tv infront of the top hole and place the stand or whatever equipment you are using infront of the lower hole. 11/19/2007 2:06:05 PM |

get a panamax flat panel power conditioner...it makes things a lot easier and protects your av equipment much better.
that's a 50" samsung mounted with an omni mount. behind the tv is a flat panel power conditioner and there's a second panamax power conditioner at the bottom just for overkill.
that's a 37" sharp aquos with an omni mount. same concept though. the wires are running to the bottom and then into the bello cabinet. i'd recommend just getting customwired to do it for you 11/19/2007 3:39:40 PM |

I absolutely destroyed a wall at my old place trying to mount a plasma TV.
It had insanely thick plaster walls that made it impossible to find a stud. We ended up with something like 16 drill holes at 1 inch intervals across the wall. 11/19/2007 3:42:20 PM |

mine is attached to the wall using a mount.
the cables connect to a av/power panel installed in the wall behind it.
the panel connects to the rest of the entertainment system through a conduit run through the wall into the a/v closet.
i stole those ideas from an installer friend of mine. 11/19/2007 4:06:01 PM |

^ A device to keep the power at the proper level, a surge protector only keeps it from going over a certain limit. They vary widely in quality. 11/19/2007 4:18:34 PM |

i helped mount a 42" lcd on my buddy's wall, beauty of it is that the wall mount came with these bolts/casings that didn't need to be in a stud, just had to drill 4 small holes in the wall. So we have this heavy ass screen and mount chillin in plaster on 4 corners. As for the cables, he has a 3-tiered center that is about 6 inches shorter than the bottom of the lcd so all the cables are shielded by the dvd's etc. at the top. 11/19/2007 5:26:25 PM |
