I will say that a study (listening to NPR) found that circumcised men in HIV/AIDS stricken parts of africa have a statistically significant lower chance of contracting HIV.

^Not in my experience. Granted, it probably depends on the child, some are likely more predisposed to cultivate yeasts and such. And in some cases the foreskin is malformed to begin with and requires circumcision.

My husband and I are going to leave our son's foreskin intact. The AMA states that it is not medically necessary and the American Academy of Pediatrics no longer recommends routine circumcision. Many parents are following suit and the popularity of circumcision in the US and world wide is falling.

And don't even get me started on the effects of a botched circumcision. My uncle had a botched circumcision, so my grandmother chose to leave my father intact, they chose to leave my brother intact. A lot of men would be surprised that the unique appearance of their penis is actually related to how their circumcision was done -- incorrectly.

The foreskin is there to serve a biological purpose. It's rich with nerve endings, protects the head of the penis, and actually aids in maintaining lubrication and providing a gliding mechanism during intercourse.

BAH! And with infants, the foreskin is still ATTACHED to the head of the penis. It does not separate from the head of the penis without forcing it until the child is older. Have you ever had to peel a diaper off of the raw head of a baby's penis??? I don't understand how people intentionally do this to their young.

Culture. Americans consider circumcision a rite of passage for boys. Most American females (and surely males as well) consider the circumcised penis more aesthetically pleasing.
