need some technical advice on home automation. i have a 19,000 sq ft house that has 24 tv outlets, entire house is wired for speakers, internet and phone. i need one control panel (in it's own room) that controls all of that. obviously computerized. functions must be (not limited to ) have one remote turn on any tv in the house along with outputting the surround sound to that same room, controlling video audio outputs to 24 locations from several sources either independently or all-together (dvd, blu ray player, tv, etc)

just for my curiosity here, what do you mean by "i have a 19,000 sq ft house"? Does that mean, you own and live in a 19,000 sqft house? Or do you "have" a client of some sort that does?

whoever has that kind of money to have a house like that certainly has the money to hire a real professional for home automation.

there's a place in cary that does this, but you can set it up yourself if you're patient enough--x10 is your friend

not to jack this thread, it might help you out lad

I too am looking to make my parents downstairs "smart"...for xmas

my parents (mother mainly) are terribly technically inapt, but i talked to her about setting up the garage/fan/lighting/tv to a main touch screen remote.

i dont want to get in over my head, obv after researching some i find that i can make this remote work for almost anything including appliances, however, i just want to start with the basics...

whats the best way to get

1 remote to control a tv / fan(with light) / garage (door and light)

ty x 5

fwiw, x10 is a very old and outdated system that is unreliable, especially in homes of that size. there are much better ways of doing this, although x10 is probably the cheapest.
