Some friends of mine and I are planning on spending the summer in Vancouver. I will have graduated, so theoretically I can get a big kid job. Still, I'd probably rather just get a shit part-time, restaurant job or something since it'll only be for the summer. Anyway, these kids are Irish and the process for them to become eligible to work in Canada is a lot different from the process I have to go through. Has anyone done this? Do I need any permits since I'm a US citizen? I've checked embassy sites and stuff, it's just hard to get a definite answer since I can't make any phone calls from over in Ireland. 12/2/2007 10:46:33 AM |

Call the Canadian Embassy in Dublin, seriously. Sure, their consular officers will be more used to answering questions about Irish citizens working in Canada but they should be able to help you out as well. It would be far easier and more beneficial to get it from the horse's mouth than to look anywhere else. 12/2/2007 1:27:37 PM |

yeah i'm sure there's a whole bunch of people that have been in ireland that can't make phone calls interested in working in canada as american citizens.
only slightly less than those at nc state that have gone through the work visa process for canada.

It looks like you'll have to get a temporary work permit. I don't see any stipulations for Americans specifically. If thats the case, then from the canadian end your process shouldnt differ too much from your Irish friends.
