Wins the FCS semi-finals 55-35, after two close playoff games. App almost blew a 35-14 2nd quarter lead, allowing them to come back to 35-35 in the 3rd, before 3 unanswered touchdowns.
i watched the 2nd half of this game - seriously, Armanti Edwards is a beast. A 6'0", 175lb beast. Edwards alone: Passing - 14/16, 192 yards, 12.0 average, 3 TDs, 0 int Rushing - 313 yards, 10.1 average, 4 TDs
Too bad o'brien didn't take my advice after they won last year.....

exactly. he was out for a month and in those 4 games, app went 2-2. with him they are undefeated and have a win vs. michigan on their schedule. he obviously could not be an nfl qb, but he is basically the mike vick of FCS football.12/8/2007 1:27:51 AM |

I'm almost positive he played in the loss to Ga Southern.
He may not have been 100%, but he was in there.
However, he wasn't the problem, they still scored a lot, but their defense has been pretty weak this year.

Hate to tell you that DIV 1 is split into two SUBDIVISIONS
FBS - Football Bowl Subdivision
and
FCS - Football Championship Subdivision
Quote : | "Subdivisions in Division I are important only in football. In all other sports, all Division I conferences are considered equivalent. The subdivisions were recently given names to reflect the differing levels of football play in them. Additionally, some sports, most notably ice hockey and men's volleyball, have completely different conference structures that operate outside of the normal NCAA sports conference structure. The method by which the NCAA determines whether a school is Bowl or Championship subdivision is first by attendance numbers and then by scholarships. Although scholarships are only one of several methods for the NCAA to determine if they have some form of financial backing for the program they do look at attendance as an additional key consideration." |

I guess calling it a SUBDIVISION makes us feel better about not playing foorball any more this season.12/8/2007 1:48:12 AM |

Is wrong. App was 4-0 without their starter. The two games App did lose were Wofford (Edwards was taken out in 3rd Quarter) and Ga Southern in which he played all but 2 series.

He would be better than Evans, until he took a few hits from ACC linebackers that are just as fast as him and 80 lbs heavier. I guess he might have helped us beat UCF. Does anyone think this guy would actually stay healthy through the season in I-A football?
PS: Sign of the game goes to the row of people phonetically spelling out "APP-UH-LATCH-UN". How many consecutive I-AA National Championships do they need to win for the pompous Midwestern newspeople and football analysts to pronounce it right?

Yeah, I was at this game. The guy is so fun to watch in person, but you can really see just how tiny he is. He missed 3 games after they played Michigan, not because of any specific injury, he was just completely beat to hell. And according to the fans, he really wasn't back to himself until a couple games ago. One game getting tackled by 300 pounders and he was put out of commission for practically an entire regular season. He's an awesome player, but just too small to really do anything else beyond this level. Kick returner is about the only thing I could ever see him doing in the next level, and that's only if he has a death wish. 12/8/2007 8:20:36 AM |

You make it sound like Evans is a lot bigger than Edwards, but somehow Evans can take hits from ACC LBs. And I'm willing to bet Evans isn't the 6'2, 190 listed on State's page. But he's only a sophomore, he will get bigger and better. He won't be tall enough to be an NFL QB...maybe like a Randel El, let him get some WR reverse passes in there too. But probably not that either, he'll make it to the CFL with all his other App alumni. 12/8/2007 11:34:56 AM |

Evans doesn't run much, and when he does it's not like Edwards does.
Every time Edwards gets tackled, theres a huge tangle of arms and legs, and you hope he hasn't broken anything. Not only does he not slide, he doesn't even brace for impacts, he just keeps running. 12/8/2007 11:51:27 AM |

Once again non-qualifier and TWW would be calling for Evans/Glennon/Beck/Burke after this kid saw two snaps for us
If anyone had a defense in FCS it would be obvious that he can't throw the ball his only throws were to wide open receivers. When LBs and DEs took bad angles at him allowing him to escape the pocket and run down field. Im sure Earl can draw up some defenses to stop him or his Earl just an offensive guy?12/8/2007 1:06:42 PM |

Same size /= same hit
Just because fat 1-AA linemen may weigh as much as ours doesn't mean they hit as hard. Remember momentum is mass x velocity. I know I'm generalizing, but this tends to be much of the difference between BCS-level 1-A and 1-AA football. 1-AA schools can usually find guys that are just as big, or just as fast, but not both.
All we know for sure is Armanti Edwards shreds 1-AA defenses, and he was beat to hell in the one game he has played against 1-A competition. The goal is not to have a Steve McNair.12/8/2007 6:41:13 PM |

have any of you guys noticed how crazy App State fans are? Tickets to the National Champion ship game cost $20 but they're selling on ebay for $300 a pair. Tickets went on sale after the Semifinal game for Season ticket holders, Yosef club members(donors) and students. They sold out by lunch on Sat. I was talking to one guy who bought some tickets from the Chattanooga website two months ago. They sell the tickets to locals throughout the season so if two distant schools go to the championship they would still have some turnout. 12/9/2007 8:58:07 PM |

you do realize this is a National Championship game, right? Oh yeah - you wrote it yourself. Sure, maybe it's the "D-1AA FCS subdivision small school National Championship" or whatever, but it's still a Championship. Not to mention, it's their 3rd in a row. If kids want to get jacked up and spend the money to get tickets and drive the 4 hours to get there, what the hell is it to you?
Quote : | "funny thing is, come a few years ago, no one cared at all." |
LOL OMG THAT IS FUNNY. wait, is it? so... you're saying that App is basically like every other school in the country with a once mediocre football team who was vaulted into the national spotlight after winning 2 subdivision national championships then knocking off one of the perennial best D-1 schools? Would you prefer the students just sit at home in their dorm rooms and not care because 5 years ago they weren't that great? Oh yeah - i guess you'll call them "band wagon fans", apparently the worst insult that can be hurled at a college sports fan. But here at NC State, we certainly don't have any of "those people." We sell out our football and basketball arenas every game, and we all stay to the very end of each game, because we are true fans. 12/9/2007 11:29:30 PM |

ASU is like any other school, they support the good teams.
They cannot however call their fanbase good because outside of football, they don't support anything. They finished 2nd in the Southern Conference in basketball and the Holmes Center is always about half full with a good team. I mean they won a school record 25 games last year.
But Ill be supporting them all the way. GO APPS. 12/9/2007 11:55:11 PM |
