Saw this on digg. Pretty terrible.

Excerpts
Quote :
"
A Houston, Texas woman says she was gang-raped by Halliburton/KBR coworkers in Baghdad, and the company and the U.S. government are covering up the incident.

Jamie Leigh Jones, now 22, says that after she was raped by multiple men at a KBR camp in the Green Zone, the company put her under guard in a shipping container with a bed and warned her that if she left Iraq for medical treatment, she'd be out of a job.

Legal experts say Jones' alleged assailants will likely never face a judge and jury, due to an enormous loophole that has effectively left contractors in Iraq beyond the reach of United States law."

(yeah, i know, its just optometry... but still)

and yet, HERE YOU ARE, making fun of rape victims.

i hope someone tracks you down and publicly calls you on half the redneck/racist/misogynistic/republican bullshit you spout on here under cover of anonymity. You self-righteous moralistic conservative hypocrites make me sick.

I would agree with that one guy in calling BS (even though the rest of his post is just stupidity), since claiming that you were raped by Haliburton employees and the US is staging a cover-up seems like something that's just too convenient a way to get money and media attention (Duke lacrosse case, as an example of something like this), but the article says that doctors confirmed that she was in fact raped... so I'll go with: Wow, Haliburton employees are fucking idiots, and it's very unfortunate what happened to her.

So.... if you got shot by a couple coworkers and they said that if you told anyone they shot you that you would lose your job... you would still go back to work with them. Interesting.

^^She claims that there was a rape kit confirming vaginal and anal forced entry, but that KBR destroyed it in a cover-up. She claims a lot of things in her "60 Minutes" exclusive interview and multi-million dollar civil suit against that big, evil corporation backed by the big, evil republican-led government. The glamour shots featured in the article make it seem like she is attention-whoring at this point.

I could see this one going either way. She could turn out to be a genuine victim, or she could be stringing us along and trying to make some money. Or maybe the truth is somewhere in-between, and there is another side to the story.

We'll see.

^^ dont be a dumbass.

you'd want the fuckers who did it to be investigated and charged as required. and you'd want the company to stand behind the law and hold people involved accountable.

and if they didnt, you'd want them to pay through the fucking nose.

^ There's always a possibility anyone accused of any crime could be innocent, but if she was really found in a shipping container, that's pretty damning, I think:
Quote :
"
Poe says his office contacted the State Department, which quickly dispatched agents from the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad to Jones' camp, where they rescued her from the container."

While I certainly agree with you that I'd want those responsible investigated and charged, it is an unusual scenario in this case. Due to a mandate issued by the Coalition Provisional Authority on Bremer's way out, the contractors in Iraq fall under a legal gray area. They aren't really accountable under Iraqi or US law (although due to the recent blackwater incidents this will likely change). So in this case, what law is there to stand behind and hold them accountable to? It is a disgusting situation and one would hope that situations like these werent the intent of the CPA mandate.

Quote :

I wouldnt automatically take shipping container to mean something as bad as it may seem. Much of the housing in the International Zone (Green Zone) is temporary and largely in shipping container like boxes.

I think that the people who wrote the CPA mandate were smart enough to know what they were doing. So contractors (particularly private military contractors) are not privy to the UCMJ or punishable by Iraqi authorities. They just also happen to be significant contributors to the Republican party and conservative PAC's. Makes you wonder.

Damning evidence to me is when...
Quote :
"an examination by Army doctors showed she had been raped "both vaginally and anally,""
...provided that its true. If there's anyone to trust in this situation, its an Army doctor.

^Do those women have numerous male witnesses in good-standing who were at the scene of the crime? And are those numerous male witnesses willing to testify to the rapes?

Because if they don't, they're lying whores and should be stoned to death for speaking ill of men, even evil American ones.

Like I said, I think she is lying. Its all a little to convient and sounds far fetched, like a younger person would make up and think people believe. She had a cell phone in her holding crate? She could call her mom, but not call for help?

Yes, I made fun of her looks.

Hey joe, I made fun of a girl that I think is lying. I also said, if im wrong, I really feel bad for her.
Im curious what you think is redneck/racist/misogynistic/republican that i spout on here?

Anyway, Prawn star sums up my feelings exactly. And WHY would the government be willing to coverup a rape allegation? I could see if it was against an iraqi by american soldiers. BUt this is a private company with company workers. You dont see them do this for anything else. Im guessing she is hoping the Haliburton=satan montra will be enough to blind the logic of many people.

I really can not believe anyone has to explain this to you.

Quote :
"heney retired from the company during the 2000 U.S. presidential election campaign with a severance package worth $34 million.[23] As of 2004, he had received $398,548 in deferred compensation from Halliburton while Vice President.[24] Concerns have been raised regarding the possible conflict of interest resulting from Cheney's deferred compensation and stock options from Halliburton"

Halliburton through its close ties with the administration has already gotten billions of pork sents its way. Since the Iraq war began there has been scandal after scandal relating to financial spending ($2000 toilet seats anyone??). Blackwater has in Iraq been in the spot light for wasting away Iraqi civilians with the Iraqi gov't demanding their removal from the country. Thus i do not find it hard to believe some shit bags from Halliburton raped some chick in Baghdad. Worst comes to worst they can just wait for Bush to pardon them the last few days he is in office.

Quote :
"Halliburton’s $2.5 billion no-bid RIO contract was supposed to pay for itself as well as reconstruction of the entire country. Had the contract been fulfilled correctly, Iraq would be able to export much more oil from its northern oil fields. Instead, the oil fields are barely usable and access to international markets is severely limited. Halliburton’s work on the pipeline crossing the Tigris river at Al Fatah was a critical failure. Against the advice of its own experts, Halliburton tried to dig a tunnel through a geological fault zone. The underground terrain was a jumble of boulders, voids, cobblestones and gravel impossible for the kind of drilling Halliburton planned. "No driller in his right mind would have gone ahead", said Army geologist Robert Sanders when the military finally sent people to inspect the work .But the geologists didn’t understand what the business managers knew: that Halliburton would get paid no matter what.[19]

Halliburton spent every nickel of the $75.7 million allocated to the river crossing, including $100,000 a day while crews sat idle while drill bits were broken and equipment jammed. They never reported their poor results, changed their approach or were penalized for their failure.

The Inspector General estimated the money lost from oil exports at $5 million a day. After Halliburton spent all the money, the U.S. issued a new $66 million job order dedicated to the same task."

I honestly can not believe that the Bush/Cheney and Co. keep getting away with shit like this. Do our congressmen not see a conflict of interest btw Cheney and Halliburton. Who am i kidding the influential senators are probably getting some form of cutback from Halliburton.

^because covering up a criminal act, by private citizens in a private company bc they receive money from the government? Bit of a stretch dont you think?

i disagree. i don't think that attractiveness has all that much to do with people choosing to rape someone. rape is a violent act. it's not like (if true) this group of guy was like "i think this girl is hot! let's rape her and then throw her in a storage container!"
