but not till 2010
Quote : | "Charlotte officials on Wednesday received their long-awaited opportunity to play host to the ACC football championship game.
But the game will stay in Florida two more years before coming to Bank of America Stadium.
Sources confirmed Wednesday the ACC will send the 2008 and 2009 games to Tampa and give Charlotte the games in 2010 and 2011. A news conference is scheduled at 2 p.m. today at Bank of America Stadium to announce details.
According to sources, a convention scheduled in Charlotte in 2008 on the same weekend as the ACC championship game was a factor in Charlotte's not receiving the 2008 game.
Charlotte was outbid by Jacksonville for the first round of ACC championship games after the conference expanded to the 12 teams the NCAA requires to hold a conference championship game.
Three years of declining attendance - as Jacksonville drew 72,749 in 2005, 62,850 in 2006 and 53,212 in 2007 - opened the door for Charlotte and Tampa.
Its location within 275 miles of eight ACC schools was a plus for Charlotte as conference officials hope for higher attendance at future games.
Tampa impressed ACC officials with its management of the 2007 ACC men's basketball tournament and is seen as a potential draw for fans because of its warm weather and location on the Florida Gulf Coast." |

Boston College playing in this year's game (and their lack of fans) was great for Charlotte 12/12/2007 12:24:31 PM |

that still seems like kind of a dumb reason...i've gone to a panthers game and then a bobcats game in the same day...its quite do-able 12/12/2007 12:38:22 PM |

I've done that a couple times...the trick is maintaining that perfect level of buzz from leaving Ericsson to make the trip to the Bobcats before getting shitfaced again once your inside 12/12/2007 12:55:17 PM |

In terms of hotels and all of the events they would want to set up around the stadium (if not even at the convention center), I could see why they wouldn't want to conflict with a large convention. 12/12/2007 1:06:43 PM |

Knowing the ACC's luck, when Charlotte hosts it will be Miami vs. BC...in the snow. 12/12/2007 5:53:17 PM |

Don't see how moving it to Tampa is gonna be an advantage over Jacksonville, still just as far from all the ACC schools other than FSU and Miami...sure they sold out the basketball tournament but thats 12 teams playing and 20,000 fans as opposed to 70,000+ from 2 schools for football 12/12/2007 6:36:58 PM |

I bet they are praying that the next 2 years that mia or florida is in the championship game. Problem is I do not see that happening. Maybe just MAYBE we can turn our stuff around and be good by 2010 or 11. I know that gives us some time and IF we are good by then...well I think we'd bring way more than the bowl game we had there. Imagine VA TECH vrs NC STATE, or CLEMSON vrs VA TECH ...would be the hottest ticket in town. I can only dream. But hell that gives charlotte acc championship in bball 2008, hopefully panthers can make the playoffs in 2009 and home at that and then the next 2 years this. We shall see what I am 12/13/2007 1:54:42 AM |
