I am having a couple problems with Team Fortress 2. First, I can be playing from any amount of time, from 5 to 30 minutes or more, and I get an error message in red in the top right corner: "Warning: OS Memory Page File Low" or something similar to that (the wording might not be right). I got this same error on my old computer, so the first thing I did on my new PC was to up the paging file to the max (3072mb). Doesn't help.
Secondly, the game freezes almost every time I play. I notice it that it happens a lot when I'm in water, so I tried turning down the reflections options in the video settings. The game froze again about five minutes ago when I used my uber charge, so I really have no idea what's going on. When it freezes, it loops about half a second of whatever sound was going at the time. The only way I can get out of it is to restart my computer.
I had these exact same problems on my old computer, but there are no shared parts between them. I've got a gig of RAM and an ATI x1300 pro video card, so the only thing I can think of is maybe there's a problem with the installation of the files. Halp! 12/16/2007 5:01:42 PM |

After I dropped my hard drive, I got that exact same message, replaced the hard drive and it was fine. 12/16/2007 6:56:31 PM |

the error is Paged Pool Memory Low
I've read that some antivirus scanners eat up memory, that may be your problem, there is a lot of info on the steam forums about it 12/16/2007 8:52:07 PM |

do you have problems with any of the other orange box games? (i assume you have the orange box) have you reinstalled it at all? 12/17/2007 12:20:34 AM |

I have no problems with any of the OB games. I can run HL2 and Portal both at the highest settings; it's only with TF2 that I have issues. I could try re-installing, but I just loaded it on last week so I don't know if that would do anything.
I'm going to order two more gigs of RAM tomorrow, hopefully that will fix it. 12/17/2007 1:53:48 AM |

I already disabled the auto-protect (that's what the Steam help FAQ said), but it didn't solve the problem. Do you know if TF2 will conflict with all anti-virus programs, or just Norton? 12/17/2007 3:31:44 PM |

^^I use the NCSU Symantec and it doesn't seem to cause a problem. Check and see if any programs are using a ridiculous amount of your memory in the task manager before you start playing maybe. 12/17/2007 5:31:15 PM |

There's 2 versions that the school offers. Sav9 and Sav10. I put Sav10 on your computer. You might try using sav9 on there until you get more ram. 12/17/2007 5:52:38 PM |
